Since I'm busy shooting for The Job today and can't even begin to organize my thoughts into a coherent post, it's time for PICSPAM:

Kate

I thought her eyes were poppin' in quite a few shots I got during the session, but this one jumped out at me the most, in that regard. I'm still debating a bit as to whether I like the curves adjustment I applied to this, but so far, I'm into it.

In other news, by some bizarre twist of fate, I am unexpectedly free this evening. I suspect my activities will involve home-cooked dinner, Netflix, and/or XBox360.

AND! I'm off to the races again.

Beautiful shot. Nice to see someone who looks a little curvier, too.

I am free tonight, but I think you'd probably appreciate your date with NetFlix more. ;) Still, we haven't talked in a while and we should get together soon?

Yeah, I never shy away from working with curvy girls :) This one was ridiculously tall, though, so *that's* what really made it a challenge for me!

And YES, plans need to happen. How does your Monday look?

Sad thing is, I will probably end up working for at least some of it, anyway. XD

Her eyes are beautiful, but why isn't she smiling and sitting up straighter? I just don't get it.

I don't usually tell people to smile, and don't even feel that a portrait necessarily requires a smile. I'd rather have a genuine expression that's serious than a fake smile, and I'd rather have them be comfortable than not. ::shrug::

I can totally understand not wanting a fake smile. Perhaps it is her posture in this photo combined with her prominent jaw that creates the problem for me. Because of her prominent jaw and lower lip, it looks like she is gritting her teeth. The slouch gives her a defeated look. If she was in this position but not looking directly at the camera, the photo would probably work for me. However, because she is looking at the camera with this expression, she comes across as confrontational and unhappy at the same time.

The girl in this photo:

has a similar facial structure and expression, but because of her posture and where she is looking the photo comes across as benign.

This girl:

is sitting in a similar position, but the slight raised corner of the mouth combined with the lighting and her hair put the focus on her eyes rather than her jaw, which makes her look empty rather than angry.

When I look at your photo, the first thing I see is the eyes. Then, the lines from her nose draw my eye down to her mouth and her jaw. In the second link, the hands then draw attention, but in this one, my eyes end up resting on her mouth and jaw, which then causes my mind to wonder why she has that expression. Then the slumped shoulders come into play. I then make up a backstory of an angry woman raised in an abusive household. If I cover up her chin, all that goes away.
