That pesky brain of mine decided to wake me up an hour before the alarm this morning, and once again, I could not fall back asleep. WHAT THE CRAP.
Most of my birthday passed with very little fanfare, which was fine. I got my dose of fanfare at the party, after all. But, not a lot was said about it by anyone, aside from the billion-or-so messages on Facebook. Apparently, a generic "happy birthday" is appropriate on Facebook, even if you haven't spoken to the person for several years. ;p
Birthday dinner was low-key just like I wanted, and effin' delicious. I settled on Navarre as my locale of choice, and I had some good company along for the ride. Among other things, we had braised greens, fennel salad (amazing), rabbit (interesting), something listed on the menu simply as "Bird," (also amazing), and crab cakes (officially Tasty). And dessert was a pear pie with chocolate that was everything I hoped it would be. <3
Only pitfall was that it was a bit on the spendier side, so I'm already feeling the guilt about not picking up the check. Yeah, I know, it was my birthday, but still, guilt. Once you throw in the wine, though, I wouldn't have felt ripped-off if I *had* paid, so it was an excellent pick, overall!
I definitely need to eat at more places like this. There is a metric ton of delicious food to be had in Portland, but after three years in this town, there's so much of it that I still haven't eaten. I MUST REMEDY THIS.
Anyway, I'm pretty pooped today, but the evening should be fairly relaxed-and-groovy. Maybe I'd have more to post about than eating and being sleep-deprived if I could actually, y'know, sleep. ;)
