SURPRISE! Belt test!
Dec. 17th, 2008 10:50 amSooo, yeah. I've been going around thinking that the next belt test was on Saturday, but due to inclement weather, they moved it to... yesterday! DUNT DUNT DUUUHHHH! Heh.
It was not at all a big deal, actually, because if they're asking you to take the test, then they're going to let you pass. Some of the other folks in class seem to think that the test itself actually matters, so they wigged out a bit when it got moved up, but I wasn't worried. And everyone passed, and everything was happy and shiny, and I have my red belt at last.
Now I get the not-fun task of complaining at them (again), in the hopes of at least being allowed to practice with the compulsory class, so I can learn competition-level forms that might actually be challenging. I do far better in wushu when I have a challenge to rise up to, and I learn fast. But instead, I've been spinning my wheels for the past year, doing two-section basic forms in order to work my way up through their completely arbitrary belt system.
I haven't felt challenged in a long time, and if I had any other option for training, I'd probably have left by now. Unfortunately, a 20'x40' open space with carpet is hard to come by, and all of the other schools in town that claim to teach wushu teach it incorrectly. This is one of the rare (RARE) instances when I almost wish I lived in SoCal and had other options for wushu. :p It's not that I don't love my teachers, because I do, but the class format doesn't do them (or me) any justice, and doesn't allow them to train us very effectively. If somebody shows more talent or more dedication, they don't have a good way to help them advance more quickly.
In other news, The Job is closing at noon today because it's snowing again. That's kind of hilarious, seeing as my bus was a good 40+ minutes late, so I'm only going to get about 2 hours of work done today. XD
