The New Star Trek trailer is out. I feel like I'll be holding my breath until this movie comes out. I want to get excited about the trailer, but I'm not quite there, and that is... troublesome.

See, I'm afraid that the end result will leave me feeling like I did after watching The Forbidden Kingdom. I really, really wanted to love The Forbidden Kingdom, because it was friggin' Jet Li AND Jackie Chan TOGETHER, and totally should have been epic, but in the end, I just... couldn't.

Similarly, I *really* want to love this movie to pieces, because it's bloody STAR TREK, and I've been nerding out over the Trek universe since grade school. I have my very own TNG communicator (which was an awesome gift that I've kept in a little cushioned box for the past 15 or so YEARS), I dressed up all Uhura-stylie for Halloween, I went to conventions and talked to big Klingon dudes. I forgave them for Star Trek V and the ridiculous God thing. I even forgave them for Nemesis, when the whole fan base seemed to hate it, because I just loved seeing my favorite crew on the big screen.

Word is, there's already a fair amount of retcon happening with this movie, and the trailer isn't quite grabbing me, and I have serious reservations about the new Kirk, and just... gah. If this movie sucks, I will personally kick J.J. Abrams in the gonads.

Of course, I still owe him a few groin kicks for Alias and Lost, so hey, we'll make it a party. :p

As soon as I heard he got the license, I thought of Alias and Lost, and all the joy and GREAT ANGER they have given me, and immediately gave up all hope. But, the trailer looks good.
What I suspect will happen is that it will be awesome times a million until the end where he completely screws with the entire universe, angering us all. :D

Dude, that is *so* how it will go. A big stream of awesome, culminating in a final moment of, "what the fuck?! I'm never watching this again!"

I think this movie looks AWESOME... but I am so so so so so afraid of the flood of slash fiction that will now be re-swamping the internet

Also, I think JJ Abrams is better in the movie department than the TV one. Alias and Lost both went downhill in the later seasons, but look at Cloverfield. That movie was fucking incredible.

Unfortunately, I've only seen Cloverfield once, and I was only half-paying attention because I had a shit-ton of work to do. :/ Still, I can totally buy the theory that he's better in movies, if for no other reason than the fact that movies leave less time for him to do something that pisses me off. XD

Just, man, I am so tired of Hollywood taking a fat, unimaginative shit on everything that was cool during my youth. PLEASE GOD let this work out.

I know, right? His presence alone should at least make the movie decent. Why the hell can't I get excited about it?

I think part of the lack of excitement has to do with lack of information. We don't have any story, just a bunch of exciting visuals and the name "Star Trek". When we get a second trailer that offers some story we'll have some reason to say "Ooh, I want to see that, it's going to be cool!"

Based on the history of Alias and Lost, This movie will turn out great. It's the inevitable sequel that will suck beyond all reason.

The trailer leaves me not convinced by the new Kirk.

Forbidden Kingdom...oh god. That was a serious suck fest. To use a phrase a Candy's it was a veritable Shit Fiesta.

Ugh. This movie is a terrible, no-good, bad idea. Is there any part of the last fifty years of American culture that Hollywood will not shamelessly recycle in order to leverage popular sentimentality? >_<
