Jerked around
Feb. 10th, 2008 08:32 amUuuuugh, it's EARLY. Especially for a Sunday. Our first victim headshot candidate shows up in about half an hour, and I'm waiting on breakfast. (yes, hungry *and* tired, what could be better?)
I think the theme of my day yesterday was, "Getting Jerked Around By Asians." Okay, so maybe that only *really* applies to the evening portion, but still, it was rather annoying and I wound up missing both gatherings that I wanted to go to.
Shooting at the Chinese New Year party was rather underwhelming. I guess the the idea was that people would bring their silks and pose for the camera, but they apparently kinda forgot to announce it to the students, so most of them didn't wear anything special. It was a fun little party, and there was Chinese bakery cake (Srsly. Best cake EVER.), but I think for photo booth setups to really work, the party guests either need to be in high school, or drunk. ;p
They did seem pleased with our photos, though, because they were talking about having us at another party in a month or two, but I think they're expecting us to keep doing it for cheap. The school clearly has money to spend, though, so I'm thinking an up-front rate needs to happen from now on. I may be too nice for my own good sometimes, but I'm not a *total* sucker.
I also got asked to do a wushu demo with Phil and his family, and originally it was supposed to happen right after we got done shooting, so I said, sure, why not, since the venue was in SE and we were supposed to go to a party in SE anyway.
Of course, I get a call in the mid-afternoon, saying that, oh, the performance starts at 6pm, but our part of it isn't until later, so we're not meeting until 7:30. So I'm like, okay, I'll be a little late to the party, I guess. I get there a bit after 7:30, and get all suited up and warmed up, thinking we're going to perform soon.
Then we hear that we're performing at 8:30, which is annoying, because trying to stay warmed up for that long is a serious pain.
Then 8:30 arrives. Yep, still not performing. We didn't actually go up until after 9pm, and by the time I got out of there, it was 10:00.
The whole situation sucked, because we were all hungry, and we wanted to be done, but I didn't feel like I could do much about it, because I didn't even know who was in charge of the event. And I suspect Phil didn't feel like he could do much either, because it was some big friendship group or something that his family's involved in, meaning his parents were there and he couldn't throw his weight around and be an asshole about it.
So, yeah, that was highly annoying, and as much as I like doing demos, getting jerked around with this disorganized, last-minute BS is not my idea of fun. Grrr.
Anyhoo, headshots are now arriving in 10 minutes, so I'm out. Let's hope today goes smoother. :p
