"Everything's coming up Milhouse!"
Apr. 10th, 2007 04:25 pmIt's official: I am leaving the E-U-G for good at the end of the month! :O BTW, that's, "for good," in the, "Not going to live here," sense, not the, "OMG EUGENE EWWW NEVER AGAIN," sense. I'm likely to be visiting every so often, and the Eugene crew is always welcome on my couch. :) Well, once I figure out where said couch is going to *be*, anyway.
For those who missed the friends-only, unconfirmed version, the story is as follows:
--Previously: batted around idea of moving to Portland later in the year
--Received notice from landlord that he's selling the house, and all renting occupants must GTFO by April 30th.
--Thought on it some more, and decided to see about moving up the timeline
--About a week ago: Talked to boss #5 about layoff/contracting options
--Today: Talked to CEO, confirmed ability to work as independent contractor, and put in official notice.
So, yes, my last day is the 27th. (a.k.a. my birthday!) I have some Portland job prospects in the works, but even if they all fall through, there is design work to be had at The Job that I can do remotely from Portland, so I have some buffer and time to get things nailed down completely. Things are looking pretty all-right, and I'm definitely pumped!
What am I going to do up there? Oh, gosh, probably lots of things. The things that are figured out?
--Rent room in house with cool people in not-too-expensive part of town (buy a place later)
--Get a newer, cooler Job (had an interview last Saturday, and another tomorrow)
--Keep hacking at the photo business (plug plug)
--Independent contracting for The Job, if I don't have a new Job (phew)
--Independent contracting for other folks (maybe start own company, if that goes well enough)
--Hopefully train here, so I'll have a coach again (yay)
And, there's probably tons that I haven't thought of yet. My brain's kind of on overdrive right now. ;p
I'll probably be bugging y'all through non-LJ channels soon, because I want to hit y'all up before I go anywhere. :D I realized the other day that, if I waited until September, I'd have been in this bloody town for TEN YEARS. Sounds like a good excuse to have a party and/or generally fun gathering to me!
And in closing, excerpted IMs, re: the above (SNs replaced):
skeets: I ought to call my mom
skeets: so I can post about it after XD
dakania: XD spoken like a true addict ;pp
Hey, I'm not LJ user #34 for nothing. ;p
