Thanksgiving was very restful. I realized after looking back at the ol' LJ, that I'm thankful for, basically, the same stuff I was thankful for last year. I guess that means I should be happy that those things continue to be good in my life, because they're the most important.

Me, J, [livejournal.com profile] numfar, and [livejournal.com profile] polysciguy did dinner and saw the RENT movie on Friday. I enjoyed it lots. Of course, I've cycled through periods of obsession with the original Broadway show, so me liking it was pretty much a given. I kind of realize that people who don't know the musical probably won't see what all the fuss is about, based on this movie, but it's as close as I'll ever get to seeing the OBC perform it, so me? Happy. :D

Everybody sounded fantastic! Rosario Dawson made a good Mimi; her vocals weren't as amazing when placed next to the rest of the cast, but they were serviceable, and I think she got the spirit of the part down well. The characters also seemed more three-dimensional in general, although that might have been because I was seeing them close-up, instead of being parked in the second balcony looking at Barbie-sized people on a stage. Some of the lines they translated from song to spoken didn't quite fly, but other parts of the semi-new dialogue worked and felt pretty natural. Roger taking a stroll in the middle of the freaking New Mexico desert during "What You Own" was SO CHEESY that I have to kick the director. :p Still, the spirit of the story came through in the end, so it was worth my money.

This guy sums of another of my feelings well with this: "And, besides, if you don't completely lose your shit when Tom Collins eulogizes Angel, then you’re probably the kind of bigoted person who believes that New Yorkers in the 1980s went out and got themselves some of the AIDS because "they had nothing better to do," in which case you can jump up my ass." YES. I can't help loving Collins and Angel together, and Collins always kills me during the eulogy. Jesse L. Martin also sells it a lot in the movie, with the help of the anguished camera close-ups that you don't get in a stage production. If you don't at least get misty-eyed during that sequence, you have no freaking soul. ;p

I managed to temporarily fix the computer problems on the new-ish box by swapping in an older video card on Friday night. I'm still fairly cheesed-off that the newer video card refuses to work, but I may do some part-swapping over the next few days, and see if I can get it to work with Alphonse. If so, then I'll try the video card from Alphonse in the new box.

Anyway, some massive WoWing was had, after getting the new box running. Did 2 BRD runs in an attempt to get the Barman Shanker, but it didn't drop. I should keep trying, though, because I've had random people comment that I have, "some of the worst gear [they] have ever seen on a 60 Rogue." I still have the freaking Black Menace as my main dagger, which I've had since lvl 37 or so, if *that* tells you anything. ;p On the plus side, I got Winkletoes to 40, so the flaming horsie is mine at last! :D And, Fiz got some good AB wins and lots of Cps, so maybe I'll get lucky and hit Sergeant Major tomorrow.

Thanksgiving feast photo should hopefully come soon. But for now, that's all I've got time for.

May I also suggest Baron Strat runs for Bonescraper and that elusive phat 1-hander he drops? UBRS runs are good for the Dal Rends sword set, and also any instance that will drop a piece of Shadowcraft ... Baron drops all pants, the last boss in UBRS drops all chestpieces, and Gandling in Scholo drops all helms. Also, Dire Maul trbute runs are good for a specific agility-based ring, and the last boss in UBRS also drops Painweaver Band. +AP is your friend. :D

BRD is sort of a waste of time at 60, unless you're getting attuned for Onyxia ... there's a lot better gear in higher instances. Oh the wonder that is Jailbreak!

Yeah, I've been meaning to do a lot of those instance more, but BRD has kind of been the default lately, because we don't actually have that many people in the guild at or near 60. I've only been 60 since last Tuesday, [livejournal.com profile] polysciguy just dinged a day or two ago, and J has been 60 the longest out of all the Manor expats; the rest are low-to-mid 50s. Even BRD is a bitch in the low-50s. ^^;

It should get better now that J and I can actually play at the same time! But yeah, I might just have to suck it up and group with some random band of idiots, for the immediate future.

PUGs, unfortunately, are a neccesity sometimes. Even with a moderately large guild like my own, there usually aren't enough people who want to do the same thing at the same time, especially 10 to 15 man instances. I PUGged it for most of my Magister's set.

I have done PUG in all of the upper end instances execpt for MC and BWL.

I have noticed one important thing. Unless everyone just really doesn't know how to play their class, and as long as egos don't get in the way, 10-20 level 60's will usually own any instance it runs through. Especialy if they have a few people that have ran through it before. I'm not counting MC, BWL or ZG, these are way harder for a pug to do. But I have ran many UBRS, Scholo and so on PUG and they have always turned out well.

Of course I don't know how the alliance is with pug. ^_^ or how your server is.

The backdraw is usually loot rules and spending the time it takes to go through them with mostly people you don't know. For some reason the non-guild runs always seem to take a long time. O_o;;

Any who, sorry I babbled. Just wanted to throw in my two cents there.
