Weekend Roundup
Nov. 28th, 2005 04:07 pmThanksgiving was very restful. I realized after looking back at the ol' LJ, that I'm thankful for, basically, the same stuff I was thankful for last year. I guess that means I should be happy that those things continue to be good in my life, because they're the most important.
Me, J,
numfar, and
polysciguy did dinner and saw the RENT movie on Friday. I enjoyed it lots. Of course, I've cycled through periods of obsession with the original Broadway show, so me liking it was pretty much a given. I kind of realize that people who don't know the musical probably won't see what all the fuss is about, based on this movie, but it's as close as I'll ever get to seeing the OBC perform it, so me? Happy. :D
Everybody sounded fantastic! Rosario Dawson made a good Mimi; her vocals weren't as amazing when placed next to the rest of the cast, but they were serviceable, and I think she got the spirit of the part down well. The characters also seemed more three-dimensional in general, although that might have been because I was seeing them close-up, instead of being parked in the second balcony looking at Barbie-sized people on a stage. Some of the lines they translated from song to spoken didn't quite fly, but other parts of the semi-new dialogue worked and felt pretty natural. Roger taking a stroll in the middle of the freaking New Mexico desert during "What You Own" was SO CHEESY that I have to kick the director. :p Still, the spirit of the story came through in the end, so it was worth my money.
This guy sums of another of my feelings well with this: "And, besides, if you don't completely lose your shit when Tom Collins eulogizes Angel, then you’re probably the kind of bigoted person who believes that New Yorkers in the 1980s went out and got themselves some of the AIDS because "they had nothing better to do," in which case you can jump up my ass." YES. I can't help loving Collins and Angel together, and Collins always kills me during the eulogy. Jesse L. Martin also sells it a lot in the movie, with the help of the anguished camera close-ups that you don't get in a stage production. If you don't at least get misty-eyed during that sequence, you have no freaking soul. ;p
I managed to temporarily fix the computer problems on the new-ish box by swapping in an older video card on Friday night. I'm still fairly cheesed-off that the newer video card refuses to work, but I may do some part-swapping over the next few days, and see if I can get it to work with Alphonse. If so, then I'll try the video card from Alphonse in the new box.
Anyway, some massive WoWing was had, after getting the new box running. Did 2 BRD runs in an attempt to get the Barman Shanker, but it didn't drop. I should keep trying, though, because I've had random people comment that I have, "some of the worst gear [they] have ever seen on a 60 Rogue." I still have the freaking Black Menace as my main dagger, which I've had since lvl 37 or so, if *that* tells you anything. ;p On the plus side, I got Winkletoes to 40, so the flaming horsie is mine at last! :D And, Fiz got some good AB wins and lots of Cps, so maybe I'll get lucky and hit Sergeant Major tomorrow.
Thanksgiving feast photo should hopefully come soon. But for now, that's all I've got time for.
