Okay, so the Pringles with Survivor trivia printed on them? That's a weird marketing tie-in. I don't think I want things printed on my potato chips, thanks.
I swear, this weather front that's currently hanging out in Eugene has some kind of bi-polar disorder. It's suddenly raining buckets over here, and I swear it wasn't doing that five minutes ago. And yesterday was just *bizarre*, with the, "oh, it's sunny! No, wait, now it's HAILING!" bit. We could see a US Postal Worker from our window during the hail, and the poor guy just kept dragging his little cart of mail behind him, doing his route while this random and insane hail pelted him from above. That is dedication, people.
It's rather irksome when people with no graphic skills or artistic sense feel compelled to litter the web with ugly, grainy, poorly-compressed wallpapers. Those of us who want *good* wallpapers shouldn't have to sift through a bunch of gnarly-looking JPGs just to find one gem. I think this why I used to have the hard-and-fast rule of only making my own wallpapers... it seems silly not to use the design skill when you have it, and separating the wheat from the chaff when dealing with other people's work is sometimes just too much trouble.
Compy-building update: Alphonse now has an operating system installed! Yay! But, Alphonse's network card refuses to work! BOOOO! But, at least James may be playing a GURPS game tonight, so I won't have to worry about kicking anybody off of WoW in order to swap computer parts between Inaho and Alphonse. Also, one cool thing is the wireless keyboard/mouse set that I randomly inherited from my daddy a while back--it's not the slickest or most expensive one you can get, I'm sure, but it's pretty effin' neat, all the same. :)
In other news, I'm escaping from Eugene for the second weekend in a row! Yes, you may die of shock now. ;p But seriously, I'll be at the coast from Friday evening to probably Sunday afternoon-ish, so don't call me, unless you're on fire or something. In fact, don't call me even if you *are* on fire, because Florence? Is over an hour away. You'd be a big pile of smoldering ashes by the time I was able to arrive on the scene. ;p
Also, I'm off to Berkeley the weekend after this. Holy CRAP. I may have to sequester myself for a bit after I get back, because I am *really* not accustomed to all this travelling around. I can't remember the last time I left town three weekends in a row.
Anyhoo, that's all I've got, and the build's complete, so I'm off.

Date: 2005-03-25 03:34 am (UTC)YES. Honestly, what is it with people who can't make a decent-looking JPEG? It's like, they want to be creative, but they don't want to actually be any good at what they're trying to do, or have pleasing results, because not sucking takes work. :P
Not that I regularly go hunting for wallpaper; I already have a suitable collection of photos, POR-Ray renders, my own Photoshop work, etc, and most "designed" wallpaper is backwards for me (or made up of blinding white/bright colors that I do not want to stare at). But I've definitely seen some ugly crap out there.
James plays GURPS? Cool.
