Where are some good places to go in Portland? For the purpose of entertaining a trio of geeky Japanophiles, two of whom have never been there before? In other words, something I'd be totally down with? ::laughs::

Seriously, though, I have a few ideas, but I kind of want to see something new when I go up to visit [livejournal.com profile] totchiko, so I'm open to suggestions. Especially regarding food establishments, because I didn't exactly get to sample a lot of local cuisine when I was living in the area.

Other than the question, I'm mainly posting to say WHEEEE I'M 100% DONE YAAAAAAYYYY! This weekend, I am going to vegetate like no man has vegetated before. Well, until James gets back and the giant housecleaning project rears its gigantic head. No rest for the weary. ;p The good news is, I don't have to go to the office on Sunday night/Monday morning, in observance of July 4th. I love a good holiday weekend, even if it does make my paycheck smaller.

Anyway, time to get my arse in bed!

Montage! It's under the Morrison St. Bridge on the east side. Open from 6pm to 4am. They have fantastic food, mostly cajun/creole, and their specialty is macaroni and cheese. And don't poo-poo that because it's quite simply the best macaroni and cheese you'll ever have. Try the cajun style, it's my fav. Only problem with the Montage is that it's packed on the weekend. But totally worth it.

And for a good coffee joint, go to Anna Bannana's. It's on something like NW 20th and Overton, but look it up to make sure. Or another place in that area is Cafe Macabre. Oh, and there's Rimsky's Korsikoffehouse in SW on Bellmont (I think... again, look it up -- I always find these things by driving a bit). It's a bit hard to spot. It's a cute house next to a Plaid Pantry store.

So you are now privy to four of my favorite places in all of Oregon. Lucky girl. ;-)

Get Fugitives and Refugees by Chuck Palahniuk, which is basically a travel guide of Portland. Someday I'm gonna go there with that book and check out all the neat stuff!

The Pahlahniuk book is a good idea, but definitely SKIP the 24-hr Church of Elvis. The one time I went was LAME beyond words. The Saturday Market may be a fun excursion. OMSI, too, especially if they still have the laser light shows!

The Rheinlander is excellent, but I'd go to the one downtown vs. the one near Washington Square. For really good Japanese food (a tad spendy, though), Ikenohana on Murray is yummy. If you make it to Montage, let me know, because I've always wanted to go there!

Have fun!

Powell's Books. Cheap entertainment, depending on your ability to avoid purchasing things willy-nilly. Not too tourist-y, but still a local landmark.

As far as restraunts go... I'm clueless, so I'll leave it at that.
