I slept way later than I had intended, but I guess I needed it, because I don't even remember the alarm going off. ;p

I went and applied to Pier 1 today, and they're hiring probably in the next few weeks. So, theoretically, I *should* be hearing from some places pretty soon. ::wills phone to ring:: And I still have more apps to drop off, even.

Anybody think that retail jobs tend to favor women? Most of the places I've seen in recent weeks have had a mostly-female staff. I think I remember seeing maybe one guy working sales at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and a couple guys at Trader Joe's, but that's about it. Well, and a couple guys at Old Gravy Navy, but I try not to think about that place. ;p

What Is Your Battle Cry?

Striding through the icy wasteland, attacking with a studded crowbar, cometh Skeets! And she gives a vengeful cry:

"I'm going to pummel you into your own personal hell, and plunge you into
financial ruin!!!"

For some reason, that sounds more like something Alex P. Keaton would say. XD

Things have been pretty low-key for me, lately. Although we did go for ice cream last night and watched some Highlander, and it was good. I was in dire need of a nap, though, so I wound up crashing on the couch after the end of the Highlander ep. Next week is Eddie Izzard, which is *definitely* going to liven things up. Wheeeee!! Oh, and apparently DDS Dan's going to be back in Eugene this weekend for one last post-graduation hurrah, so the promise of b33r looms in the air. That might be fun.

But for now, it is time to do laundry. JOY :O

Can I be a cynical turd and say yes, retail prefers women because it's easy to pay women less. }-p

That's about the just of it.

I don't know many (straight) guys who would like to work at a retail store unless it's just to check out the girls & get clothes at a discount. They're also generally limited to the Mens, Boys, Shoes, and rarely the women's section, where as women can work at *any* of those, plus lingerie, perfume, make up, etc.

Old navy does scare me. I read your post about the people with the microphones ... it seems so busy there. I think they might get paid minimum + commission because when you go in they give you a bag and talk you to death. ^^;

Did you try Barnes and Nobles (if you have that there)? I heard they were hiring like a mofo since the college students left (in all states).

I hadn't tried B&N yet, but it's on my list! It's over by the mall I haven't been to yet. :)

Yeah, that's probably the reason. I'm sure it has nothing to do with hiring people based on their appearance (especially in malls) or the segment of the public they'll be expected to work with.

Incidentally, I knew a girl once who got a Christmas job at Radio Shack, and she made an assload of money on sales commissions.. more than the regular employees. Go figure.

I swear to god, you feminist flunkies think EVERYTHING is about you, the poor little oppressed victims. Get the fuck over it already, geez.

I was gonna say it depends on the type of retail. Clothing stores, etc. generally employ more women (and gay men). Computer/electronics stores generally employ more men. I think it's a perceived expertise thing. Most people expect women & gay men to have much a better fashion sense than the average guy, and most people expect guys to be more into & knowledgeable about computers & gadgets than girls.
