The quality of some friendships...
Dec. 14th, 2001 04:48 pmI love my friends. They are amusing and fun, and they know when to be around me and when to leave me alone, and they often bring up bizarre or unusual topics that are not always for the faint of heart. (or should I say "faint of mind," since it's oftentimes nerdy-smart stuff?)
Some of my friends are truly wonderful because not only can I trust them with everything, but I also have no awkward feelings about that trust. It's harder than you'd think to find someone who will have the capacity to listen to you, advise you, and give comfort to you, AND also make you comfortable with the idea of confiding in them. Some people are great confidantes, but they're too intimidating for others to confide in. Others don't want to be confided in, but they have those duties foisted upon them anyway, because they're easy to talk to. Both qualities in the same person... that's tougher.
Some friends are great because of how cool they are, and by "cool," I mean impressive. They represent something that is sometimes foreign to you, but it's because of that foreignness that you find them so amazing. They are, or are able to do, something that you feel you can't. They give you something to learn from, and grow upon.
And some friends are great to have because, in addition to being fun and refreshing to hang with, you can also hate people vicariously through them. :D
Seriously, I totally mean that. It's sometimes important, especially for a weenie pacifist pansy like me, to have at least one or two friends who are aggressive, angsty, and seemingly unafraid of letting their true feelings be known. It reminds me that there are some times when I shouldn't be so polite or easy to please.
And I need to run outside now, before I get any parking tickets. :p

Oh, Sarah, you're so deep.
Date: 2001-12-14 04:55 pm (UTC)I'm sadly lacking in the category of friends whom I can trust, which is something that I really wish I had. *le sigh*
I always over-analyze my few friendships, and the ones that I think should have been meaningful just aren't; but I'm happy to say that at least I've gotten to know a whole flock of new people this year. They haven't developped into anything deep and personal, but I'm still keeping the hope that they will alive. :D

Date: 2001-12-14 07:47 pm (UTC)It's often very hard to trust people, so I can understand why you might not have a lot of folks you can trust... it has taken me a long time to find the people that I have now, and I'm actually a little *too* trusting, I think. But I'm fortunate that I don't tend to overanalyze my friendships... I've always been too busy overanalyzing my crushes/boyfriends/ex-boyfriends for that. ^_-
But at any rate, I'm always here (in some form, at least ^^;;;) if you need me! ::hug::
