Making the glowing square awesome
Oct. 5th, 2007 10:08 amI'm feeling rather 1337, after giving my name domain a facelift. I'd originally intended to do a grungier sort of look for that revision, but I'd been sitting on the beginnings of that process forever without much progress. This randomly took shape in my brain a couple nights ago, so I put it to pixels over lunch, and coded it up after work. Not bad for 2 hours' work, if I may say so.
I've been rolling around a lot of thoughts about diversifying the styles in my portfolio, but you know? Clean and functional does come naturally to me. Maybe I don't need to try so hard to be diverse... if something different comes to mind, then yeah, I'll take it and run with it, but forced attempts rarely seem to pan out, so maybe I should just go with the flow of things. At least I know that I *have* a design style, heh. :)
Anyhoo, I had a monster headache and sign of a fever last night, so rather than cooking, we went to Proper Eats. I'm really taking a shine to that place. They always seem to have some kind of live music, the atmosphere is relaxed and groovy, and their food makes me feel all good and healthy.
St. John's, in general, definitely has shades of a Eugene-ish culture, but in good ways. As in, you know, NOT the stagnant, transient, Uni-driven, constant-unemployment sort of ways, heh. Things are more rooted there, and there are more signs of upward momentum. The neighborhood is coming to life, for sure.
Ma and Pa are coming to town, so I'm not sure what the shape of the weekend will be. I don't think they even know, though, so I guess we'll see how it pans out.
