I'm in a numbering sort of mood today
Aug. 15th, 2007 11:53 am1) I went and did karaoke with a bunch of strangers yesterday. And by, "a bunch of strangers," I mean the MEETinPortland group that seems to have a ton of events going on. Getting there and back was a bit of an adventure--I had to go to Buffalo Gap, which required taking MAX downtown and biking through the twists and turns of deep-SW territory--but once I got there, it was pretty fun. And I FINALLY got to sing Mr. Roboto!! Hells yeah. XD
1.5) I'm coming around to the realization that I really don't like socializing--as in, getting to know and having conversations--with people in loud environments. The main reasons for this are A) my speaking voice doesn't carry well and nobody can hear what I'm saying half the time, and B) I have a really hard time picking voices out of a mass of noise, meaning that I can't hear *them* either.
I can tune out all noise completely with no trouble at all, but my pseudo-ADD thought processes don't do well with focusing on one person's voice amongst many. I went to a lunch a month or so ago with a few folks from MEETinPortland, and that was a lot more manageable on a social level than the karaoke thing. Don't get me wrong, I love me some karaoke, but low-key is so much better for meeting people.
2) Fox News stoops ever lower... now they're trying to skew the content on Wikipedia. Siiiigh. When will it end?
3) The house stuff is going really well, actually. Ben met with somebody yesterday who was in a big hurry to find a place before she went on vacation, so we have deposit in hand for one room. I haven't met the chick yet, but Ben did consistently well at picking cool people to room with back in Eugene, so she's probably sane, at the very least.
halfempty is taking the basement, and
niro is coming on Friday to check out the last room, so if all goes well, we should be full-up and ready with deposit-y goodness by the end of Saturday. W00t!
The only part that sucks is the nasty deposit we're having to front on the house, after all the stupid lawn-related drama between Landlord and Thomas. Blargh. Having deposits for the three rooms will help with that, at least, but it's still kind of crap that the lawn has blown up into such an Issue. Sooooo glad that Landlord does not live here in town.
4) My LJ is, apparently, not very LOLCat-able. ::rotfl::
5) One of the weddings we shot recently reaffirmed my desire to raise an awesome kid, by showing me an example of exactly how I *wouldn't* want my kid to turn out. XD There was a kid at the wedding in question who would literally start crying and being generally bratty over everything. This kid likely spent more time at the wedding crying than not crying, and this was a kid who was definitely old enough to know better. The constant wailing was obviously just a grab for attention, 99 times out of 100, and the sad thing was, it worked.
Seriously, parents? Don't put up with that kind of garbage. Kids aren't stupid, and if they figure out that bawling over every little thing will get you to pay attention to them, they'll keep doing it... because they know it works!
That's all I've got.
