batskeets: (ken)
Yesterday kind of dragged, or at least the work day did. This project I'm on makes me feel very not-smart at times. I know it's largely because the development is much more hardcore than I've ever done before, and also because it involves sifting through a metric buttload of other people's code, but it still makes me feel slow, somehow.

Practice was good, though! I started teaching my first batch of n00blets the basic form I learned in *my* first year of wushu. It's so cool to be passing down knowledge! They were really pumped, too, and saying things like how learning a new form "feels like Christmas," hee. :) I *still* get excited about learning new forms, and it's really cool to see them getting all excited about it, too.

In the meantime, I'm trying to learn the traditional form that Nelson learned over the summer. Traditional = Teh Awesome. I definitely need to prioritize, though. I need to finish broadsword and straightsword, and possibly work on something new for changquan... yes, as in composing my own form. Eeeep! My own training has definintely slowed down a lot. My basics and flavor are improving, but I'm barely making any progress on forms. Blargh, I need to figure something out for that.

Anyway, I met up with Ben, David, and Tim at the WOW Hall for a show, after practice. It was nobody I'd ever heard of before, but Tim got us in for free, so the price was right, heh. :) I missed the first band, but I caught Blueprint and Islands.

I enjoyed Blueprint; rap isn't normally my kind of thing most of the time, but they put out some good beats. He also did a fun take on Billie Jean--yes, as in the Michael Jackson song--and got the crowd into it. :) Islands was okay; they were fun at first, but didn't quite reel me in. The most interesting thing about them was the random instruments they busted out; violins, piano, bass clarinet... a bit unusual for a rock show. Overall, I found myself more interested in what the violin guys were doing than anything else, but I couldn't hear them half the time, so that kind of put a damper on things. :p

We took off a bit early--David was tired, and Ben was totally not feeling the last band--so Ben and I laid around talking for a couple hours until we crashed out at 2am. I don't think I will ever get tired of late-night chats like that. I think some of the best moments I've ever had have been as simple as just being with another person and sharing a few words.

So yeah, I'm tired again, much to nobody's surprise. But it's Thursday, and I don't have to go to the gym, and I don't have 80000 things on my To-Do List, so I intend to relax and get some good Zzz's tonight. :)
