Halloweenies
Nov. 2nd, 2013 12:12 pmOctober has been crazy. The first half was a non-stop stress party, and the latter half has been calm, sometimes unsettlingly so. This whole feast-or-famine cycle is pretty damned exhausting, and the thought of another year of it makes me a bit ill. But, everything I read and hear says that we're only just coming out of year 2, and basically nobody hits that steady sweet spot this early in the game.
It's pretty cool to look back and see that I'm 2/3rds of the way to beating the odds. It's commonly said that most new businesses fail in the first 3 years, and I'm well over halfway to that benchmark. As semi-terrifying as the calm has been, it's exactly the break I need before charging back into the fray.
With all of the insanity of the rebranding, that also meant that this year's Halloween costume endeavor was less grandiose than what I'd envisioned--what I really wanted to do was a costume from Airbender, but by the time I felt rested enough from work insanity, there just wasn't a lot of time. (and, honestly, not a lot of budget, either) Halloween is supposed to be fun, and the thought of trying to rush through the Airbender costume was just stressing me out. I hold those characters too close to my heart to do the costume half-assed, so I'll save it for another time that's less crazy.
SO, instead of that, this happened:

The beauty of Freddie Mercury is that you *can* go over-the-top insane, but it can also be ridiculously simple. Most of this was stuff I had or borrowed, a couple of things I made, and the top-dollar component was the $14 mustache. It didn't seem like much, but I managed to take 2nd place in a costume contest with this getup--admittedly, it probably helped that I really, really like singing Queen songs, heh. ;)
