This is probably the last relatively calm weekend I have for the rest of July, so I think I'm going to make the best use of that I possibly can. Other than skating and [livejournal.com profile] twilite_embrace's housewarming, I'm going to have a lot of flex time to sleep and loaf around. But, knowing me, I'll probably end up working on things, because that's how I roll. :p

Sunday is my (and [livejournal.com profile] marykae's) 1-year derby anniversary, which blows my mind a little. I definitely didn't expect derby to become such a big deal for me, but it's eclipsed wushu and changed a lot about my perception of myself and the world at large already. I'm more open to what's possible, and sweating the small stuff less.

It's also interesting to be so involved in something when I don't know what the end goal is. I mean, sure, I want to get drafted, but I don't know when that will be, or what that will look like. I don't know if I'll ever want to try for Travel Team, or become a coach, or any of that. I might even change my mind about getting drafted, depending on what happens in my life over the next few years. I guess the goal is reaching the fullest expression of myself through this sport, but that's far more vague a goal than I'm used to. Can't say I mind, though; the journey is going to be far more important than the destination.

And, of course, my plan to start my Sunday involves a speed skating clinic, so that's fitting. ;)

I did get my fancypants skates yesterday, and they do need some breaking in, but they're already worlds better. I already have a wide foot, and most skate boots apparently run narrow, so it's no wonder I've been having discomfort in my feet. I'm glad to have something that will feel good and last me for a long time. <3

And, your moment of picspam: this is the lady who's helped me with product styling on several of the shoots I've done over the past couple of months. We're not exactly on the same wavelength as people--she's more Pearl District and I'm more Old Town--but she's super-nice and seems to really like my work, and she seems to have become fairly well-connected without being disingenuous or throwing around false flattery. I respect that last part quite a bit, in particular, because I've met more than a few people who "know" all of the so-called VIPs in town, and they have a tendency to send my bullshit meter through the roof.

I just noticed that the tiny bumps on her forehead are arranged symmetrically. Like tiny devil horn buds. I can't not be creeped out now.
