I don't have time to write much of substance, because I need to edit until I'm blue in the face. BUT!

A) If you aren't coming to Bake-Off this weekend, you're officially missing out on my latest evil cookie creation. Threw down a quick test-batch this morning, and oh my STARS.

B) Earlier this afternoon, I talked with a dude who is, quite possibly, the biggest skate nerd I've ever personally met. My current skates are better than the previous ones, but they're too narrow and possibly a bit too short, so he's going to hook me up with skate boots that actually fit my giant feet. And possibly a short/forward mount. The latter is a bit scary, but the former is flat-out exciting.

And, back to editing.

have a look at my mount. I'll even put them on in front of you. I skated outside, and as long I stayed aware of them, I didn't fall backwards once.

What boots are you getting?

Yeah, I would be interested to see! Roger brought a pair of his for me to look at, too, and he seems to think that if I'm already leaning forward, I shouldn't have problems adjusting.

After skating last night and having my toes go numb again even though I was wearing tights, I think I'm going to go with the Bonts. After being on too-big clown-shoe skates, and then switching to my current slightly-too-small skates that hurt the widest part of my foot and make my toes go numb intermittently, I feel like it's smarter to just make the extra investment, rather than cheap out again and have yet another boot that doesn't fit and feels like crap.

They're also apparently willing to do what they call a "semi-custom" for an extra $30, which means if your feet are two different sizes or somesuch thing, they'll adjust the boot for that, and they can also add lace covers and other little customizations. It's actually really nice how much they're willing to do for a relatively small surcharge!

Yeah! He talked about that with us too. Which Bonts do you think? I'll be getting the hybrid, Scald Eagle has the racers!

What plates did you guys talk about?

I want to show you Josh's skates too, they are a little more forward than mine. Only because I can't get more forward without getting into child sizes and that would mean a completely different plate.

Also, I am curious. Where did you guys meet? He had us meet him in the parking lot by Pizza Schmizza on Beaverton-Hillsdale. He so rarely makes skates for Portland people because of the Oaks sponsorship that he doesn't have a shop! Also he had some issues with reidell that he probably told you about because that man can TALK.

Yeah, I'm going hybrid, too! One thing I did learn from my current skates is that I like the lower-cut boots.

He's okay with re-using the DynaPros I already have, and he also had some Roll-Line plates he brought with, and he mentioned the SureGrip DA45s I think. Apparently, I can improve the DynaPros by just having him swap in new cushions that cost like $5, so that's pretty awesome.

I just had him meet me at the cafe in my studio building. And yeah, he wasn't shy about the drama with Oaks, heh. It was kind of funny and also reassuring to hear him go on about skates, though, because I don't think I've ever spoken to somebody who could nerd out THAT HARD about skates. He obviously loves the work and knows his shit!
