It's a crafty post, boys and girls!

One of the issues you sometimes have when you don't follow patterns when you knit, is that you often end up with leftover yarn. It's usually enough that you don't want to just chuck it in the garbage, but it's rarely enough that you can make something else with it. I'm especially prone to this, because I like my scarves stupid-long, so I usually need some extra, but not a whole ball's worth of extra.

When I finish a scarf and have leftovers, I usually default to making a matching hat, but there wasn't enough for me to do that, this time around. Fortunately, I think I may have found a solution. Check it!:

Yes, the picture is bad, because Cell phone camera + Weirdly-lit bus interior does not equal Hot. But... it's a wee fingerless glove! The scarf I'd been working on was in moss stitch, so I did the glove in stockinette, with a moss stitch section on the back on the hand. Because y'all know how I love making things that match.

It was actually pretty easy to make, and didn't use up a whole ton of yarn, so I'm pretty pleased with it. The million dollar question is whether or not I'll be able to duplicate the result for the other hand. I think I have it figured out, but I'm reserving judgment until it's actually done. :)

I might feel inspired to start cranking these out, if the second glove works out, since I inherited a ton of cool yarns in smaller quantities from [livejournal.com profile] junsiew and hadn't yet figured out what to do with them. Huzzah for putting bus ride time to good use!

I'm knitting all my presents this year. My large project is a blanket, made of 10 st by 10 row patches from all my left over yarn. I'm going to border it in black once I'm done. It won't be pretty with random colored squares, but it will get all the left over yarn I have used up. I use to go to Goodwill and buy bags of left over yarn so I have a lot of it in varied colors.
