The one where I beat up small children
Nov. 4th, 2008 03:44 pmOkay, so I'm not *actually* beating up small children, but it's as close as I'll ever come to it!
I think I've mentioned it before, but we're doing two-man sparring sets at wushu right now, which is both good and bad.
The good part is, we get to learn more about the applications of the moves, which I didn't really learn at all at UO. And, wushu looks even cooler when the form has two people fighting each other! We don't even particularly hit each other, either; we spend a lot of our practice time blocking each other's punches, so faster reflexes and no unfortunate blows to the face.
The bad part? There are very few of us learning sparring set right now, so my most frequent sparring partners are usually one of the following:
A) an 11-year-old girl who's skinny as a rail, and whose DAD is in the class with us
B) a 14(?)-year-old boy who's shorter than me and also skinny as a rail.
They can kick pretty hard, sometimes, but they don't punch properly, and won't even get close enough to me to where I'd actually hit them, so it can be pretty lousy practice. And even if they did, I still couldn't throw anything at them full-force, even with them blocking the blows. *Especially* not with one of my kicks. (Master Chen keeps commenting on how good my side kicks are, so I'm already hesitant to fully unleash the awesome power, heh)
I find it amusing that I actually look *forward* to partnering with the 56-year-old dude with a bad shoulder. At least I know he can take a hit!
P.S. I am not talking about the election today, because I'm sure you've been inundated with enough of that stuff already. :p
