I LOVE Asian bakeries. The cakes are light, and the sweetness level is really nice. Some desserts you get in Western culture are just ZOMG SUGAR, but they're more subtle with it at the Asian bakeries, and a lot of times there's tasty fruit involved. Natural sugar = Win.

We had a CSer staying with us for a few days, and he left a couple days ago, but not without buying us some goodies from the Vietnamese bakery. It was all gone when I got back from work, except for a mung bean cake in a sealed wrapper, so I stowed it away for later.

It looked a lot like a Moon Cake, which I'd only had once before, that I can remember. Ma brought some back from one of her trips to Taiwan, in one of the rare instances when she actually brought sweets home for me to eat. It had a glazed, buttery-looking exterior, the filling was red bean, I think, and it looked like there was a whole egg yolk in the middle! I was much more accustomed to American desserts, so I found it to be a little bizarre, but tasty.

Anyhoo, I had a piece of the Vietnamese mung bean cake yesterday, and OMG SO GOOD. Not quite like that moon cake, but definitely similar.

Asian bakeries are full of tasty, tasty evil. BEWARE :O
