Adventures
Jun. 24th, 2008 10:58 amI'm sitting here in my office, and it's frickin' freezing, Mr. Bigglesworth.
Crazy, crazy weekend. In fact, Sunday was so jam-packed that I can barely remember WTF I did on Saturday. XD
Oh yeah! I wushu-ed on Saturday and we looked at houses. Oh, and a whole gang of us went to see Kung Fu Panda, which, oddly enough, offended my delicate sensibilities less than The Forbidden Kingdom did. I suspect that's partly because I expected Kung Fu Panda to be cringe-worthy and it wasn't, whereas I really wanted to love The Forbidden Kingdom but I didn't.
But yes, the Sarah Who Wants Entertainment and the Sarah Who Does Wushu were actually pleasantly surprised. Tiger actually did tiger-style stances, Monkey actually did poses I've seen in monkey-style forms. And they even used "Sifu" in a mostly-appropriate context! Well, okay, so calling him "Master Sifu" is redundant, because Sifu = Master, but still, the character actually *was* a Sifu.
Anyhoo, Sunday was non-stop madness. I met the awesome
phrassie at her BBQ in the afternoon, and she's a total sweetie. It was a really gorgeous afternoon for hanging out and relaxing in the backyard. :) She'd also ordered some cupcakes from a DPer, and they were ridiculously yummy.
From there, it was off to an engagement portrait. The couple was getting married after their session with us, but they were apparently doing a more traditional, ethnic ceremony where they didn't want pictures taken. As far as photos went, the engagement shots were their main event, so they showed up for the shoot totally decked out! They were really cute, and the bride's dress was great for some more dramatic shots.
THEN, it was off to the aforementioned fashion show, which went off fantastically. I got to use one of my strobes, and there was an actual elevated runway, which is something of a rarity in this town. They did a fantastic job picking up the ball and pulling the whole show together, and it was a great event! I wish we'd had more time to hang out, but we had to run off to *another* shoot.
Fortunately, the last shoot was easy, because it was one of our personal projects, so the only thing we had to worry about was getting to the location at twilight. It went well, and was pretty quick, so we were on our way back to the studio before long...
...until we ran out of gas. See, I'd noticed on the way to the engagement shoot that the tank was low, but the only gas station we passed was $4.45/gal for regular, and I *knew* there was cheaper to be had, so I skipped it. I'd kind of assumed that Ben would tank up while I was working the runway show, but I guess we both spaced it.
So there we were, pushing the car into the nearest Goodwill parking lot. The model for the twilight shoot was a female bodybuilder/fitness competitor, though, so that *did* make the car-pushing bit significantly easier. XD Serafin was hanging out in the area, so he came and helped us out--payback for when the situation was reversed a few weeks ago, haha--and then it was onward towards home.
Anyhoo, that was my insane weekend. Whooooof! Hopefully next weekend will be more Fun and less Running Around Crazy. ;)
