Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

We biked down to St. John's last night, and wound up watching Sweeney Todd. It wasn't my idea, but once we actually got there, I realized it was a much-needed change of pace. Being sick = no damned fun, and I've been spending a lot of hours in front of the glowing square. Not that they haven't been gratifying creatively, but whoof, I need to give myself a break.

As for Sweeney Todd itself? I was kind of disappointed. I hadn't ever seen or listened to the musical before, but the music didn't grab me like it usually does in musicals. I could have completely done without the sub-plot involving the sailor, and I was expecting it to engage in the dark humor of the situation more often than it actually did.

I don't know why people made such a big deal about the so-called "gore" factor, either. After hearing some people talk about how gross it was, I was expecting, I don't know, bloody chunks and entrails all over the place? All they really did was use a lot of over-the-top fake arterial spray, and, well, I've seen much worse in horror-type movies before. (yecch)

Johnny Depp does sing pretty decently, though, so that was a plus. Yeah, as if the ladies didn't find him sexy enough already. ;)

OMG, that hadn't occurred to me, but now that you mention it, I totally see it. I think it's the hair. XD
