I was solicited for spare change by an unemployed veteran this morning, and normally, I wouldn't make note of that, but this guy stood out because he made such a concerned effort to make polite conversation with me. I honestly didn't expect him to ask me for change, because he just seemed like a really pleasant, regular guy who felt like a chat while he waited for the MAX.

Of course, I didn't have any change to give him, because I don't routinely carry cash, but I think I'd have actually given the guy a buck, if I'd had one. He'd improved my mood by being friendly. He didn't even get snarky when I said I was sorry for not having a buck to give him, and quite a few of those guys do.

I have to wonder if he, and others like him ,end up with more money at the end of the day than the dudes who just grunt, "spare some change?" at you and thrust out a cup or a grimy hand. I sincerely hope so. Being nice can go a long way, and it seems like it should go an even longer way than it seems to in this world.

In other news, I completely forgot to mention it, what with all that's been going on lately, but our absentee roommate moved out at the end of January, and a new guy took his place. Absentee Roommate was an okay guy and everything, but he was hardly ever at the house, and when he was, he usually had one of his lady friends with him. (one of whom felt compelled to bring her overly-spastic and barky dog with her, which irked me) I can't say I really got to know the guy.

New Guy seems cool already, though. He's pretty relaxed-and-groovy, and he's been getting along really well with everyone so far. And, he actually *lives* at the house, and just generally seems to be more into the house-as-a-community thing, so that's awesome. The only Con I can think of is that he and [livejournal.com profile] niro have the same first name, heh.

And in closing, you know you've been editing too many fashion photos when you're walking down the street, see someone with a sizeable blemish on their face, and find yourself trying to apply the Healing Brush to their pimple with the powers of your mind. XD
