I heard two terms at the job today that kind of made me cringe: they were, "dress code," and "business casual."
Back at Old Job, folks would show up in anything ranging from a Hawaiian shirt and shorts to a three-piece suit, so it didn't really matter what I wore. I generally went for sassy t-shirts or a nice pullover and jeans, especially once I started biking to work, because I didn't want to accidentally munch up any of my nice clothes. 'Round here, however, jeans don't fly, unless it's casual Friday.
I have quite a few pairs of slacks, but most of them need to be hemmed, because, apparently, anyone with a large ass *must* also be six feet tall! ::eyeroll:: I had properly hemmed pants before, thanks to my ma, but they eventually became too big, so they're long gone by now.
I'm not super-tall, granted, but I'm not at all short, and I'm also not that huge anymore. Considering the average American woman is supposedly 5'4" tall and a Size 12, I don't know how most ladies *ever* find clothes.
So, now I have to find a tailor who will hem my pants without A) ruining them, and B) charging me the life of my firstborn in order to do it. Baahhh.
This is also after the torture of blistering the hell out of my feet on Sunday, because Size 11 shoes are scarce, and: Cute Leather Wedges != Comfortable Walking Sandals. Shoe shopping makes me really, really crabby, because, yeah, huge feet. I'd subsequently been procrastinating on getting comfy sandals, and now I really wish I hadn't. :p
Well, at least I was able to get some Chacos yesterday, because they extended their line of sizes, and they apparently last a million or so years. But still, GRRRR. I hate clothing and shoe manufacturers. THE END.
P.S. On a less grumpy note:
1) Yay for Chacos!
2) Movable Type is rad!
3) Yay for office decorating!
4) There is reportedly a non-corporate-asswipe coffee shop that is Good, On My Bike Route to Work, *and* has vegan pastries. Be still my heart! <3
