In the wee dab of free time that I had between work and wushu yesterday, I managed to get my computer running again! All it took was unplugging the Big HD, which was great because it was an easy fix. But, it was also not-great, because now I actually have to admit that the stupid drive is dead. I guess I should feel fortunate that I had enough warning to go get an external drive and back up all my data before it got lost for good, but still, grrrr.
Needless to say, "Big hard drive" will be going on my Christmas list again, for the something like the fifth year in a row. :p
Wushu was kind of lazy yesterday; we spent a lot of time just messing around with jumpkicks. I have been told the holy secret to doing an aerial! :O Phil told it to Goo--in short, it requires *not* approaching it like you would a regular cartwheel--and Goo was able to do it on his second try, after months of trying the other way. Of course, Goo actually gets good air on his jumps, while in my case? Not so much. Still, I half-assed a couple of attempts with the new method yesterday, and it definitely feels different, so maybe I'll get it...
I'm in the mood to do New Year's resolutions, so I'm starting off early. I'm sure I'll post regular updates as I think of more things, but anyway:
1) Stop being an idiot with my money. I'm taking steps towards that already, but it's a worthy goal to stay focused on. I'm kind of paying for past idiocies right now with all the extra work I'm having to do, but I'll have all my credit cards paid off in a few months, and I'll hopefully have more in savings, too.
Sub-goals:
--Beef up savings account and throw that into a mutual fund. It worked great when I was in high school, before I wound up spending the money on college.
--Make a Real Long-Term Investment. A house is a possibility, and the idea of living on a property and renting out the rest of it makes things more doable, as far as making payments. :)
2) Lose those last 20 pounds, for the love of GOD. I want muscle definition. I want to be able to do all the *really* bendy-flexible stuff in wushu that I could probably do if this excess fatty tissue wasn't in the way. I want 2 inches off of my bust-waist-hip measurements. I don't know what that translates to, in terms of pounds, but I imagine I'll still be packing around approx. 150 lbs. of awesome, when it's all said and done.
Sub-goals:
--Control eating habits. I should only eat when I'm hungry, and I should stop when I'm full. It sounds obvious, but I'm bad at it, at times.
--Cook more often. Healthier (and tastier!) food comes out of my skillet than out of a drive-thru window. :)
3) Be better about keeping in touch with people. I suck at this, and I know it. LJ is so easy, because I hate phones and it's a nice way to disperse news to a large number of the people I know, even though they live all across the world. But, it seems like a lot of important-to-me people hardly ever look at this thing, so other methods need to be devised.
Sub-goals:
--Maintain e-mail list. Actually tell people WTF I'm doing, and encourage replies. I'm awful at calling people back, but responding to e-mails is right up my alley!
--Pester family more. Maybe then I would get more than a list of gripes from Ma. ;p
4) Get over myself and learn to trust people more. This is sort of a weird one, because I find that I trust what people say, generally speaking. Trusting them with knowledge or feelings that could potentially be used to hurt me in some way, however... that's tougher. My problem with doing that puts a wall between me and y'all, and that's bad news.
Sub-goals:
--Stop being paranoid about boyfriend. Just be honest, make sure he knows that I reeeeally like him, and whatever happens, happens.
--Be more open with people in general. Gripe about things when they need to be griped about, show happiness when happy, etc.
Anyhoo, there's work to be done, so I'm off.
