Hey, I'm still looking for photography equipment tips, if anyone's got them.

The weekend is looking busy but fun. I have a demo on Saturday--the last one before the big one at Asian Celebration, oh noes!--and I have a sort of "make fun of Valentine's Day" party to go to later that evening. On Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] bookid's friend that is also one of our WoW guildies is coming to town, so we're probably going to do lunch while she's here. Yay!

There's talk of seeing 42nd Street at the Hult Center, too, but upon closer inspection, I *really* don't think I can afford it at ~$30 a head. Yes, it's that bad. x_x Grah. I think I will be okay this month, but I need to squeeze out the last of my cafeteria plan from last year, and file my taxes for Great Justice and Phatty Refunds. Can I just never ever get sick again? Please?

I'm still trying to figure out where I can go to compete this year, aside from Berkeley. If I can't pay $30 to see a play, then I'm sure as hell too broke to go to Irvine this month, so that's right out. I'm also not really prepared enough with my form, anyway, so it's not so terrible.

I have some new options in mind to pick from, but I'm waffling, so help me decide where to go! I know y'all don't have much knowledge of wushu tourneys, so it's all about the location! So, if you have a reason or three for why I should go to a particular place, state it. :)

20 May 2006: Greater Hartford International Chinese Martial Arts Tournament (Hartford, CT)
- That's faaaar. Plane tickets would be essential to making it work at all. Probably a rental car, too.
+ There are some cool places/people within a couple hours' drive of Hartford, so it could be a nice vacation.
+ It's a Chinese Martial Arts Only tournament, and apparently a pretty good one, at that.
+ There's an intermediate division, so I won't completely embarrass myself and I might even medal. <3

20-21 May 2006: San Diego Grand International Martial Arts Competition (San Diego, CA)
+ It's actually a kind of driveable location! Road trips = The Fun!
+ Could visit with people on my way down or on my way back.
- It's a mixed-discipline tournament, and wushu people have been known to get the shaft on judging scores at mixed-discipline events.
- Divisions are 0-2 years, and 2+ years experience. I'm over 2 years now, which means *somebody* who's been doing it since they were 10 years old will come out and kick my ass.

25-27 Aug 2006: International Wushu Championships (Houston, TX)
- Again with the plane tickets. Driving this would be too brutal, especially when I don't know what day my event will take place.
+ I don't particularly want to visit Texas itself, but there *are* people there that I could conceivably visit with.
+ All-Chinese Martial Arts, so judging and everything should be good. This is also reportedly a pretty good event on the whole.
- Again with the 0-2/2+ years divisions. I'd get totally schooled. (2 years is not Advanced, people!!)

I think I'm having a good week, on the whole. Yesterday, I had lunch with my fellow design people at Oregano's, which I hadn't been to before, but their steak with red pepper sauce was really yummy. I'll definitely have to go back there, heh. :) I trained my ass off at practice and lifted afterwards, so that's going pretty swimmingly. I squeezed in some PvP and got an AB win, and laughed my ass off at the Colbert Report. (I missed PR again because I was at the gym, sigh)

I've been taking valerian root all week to help with the whole sleeping thing, and I have apparently been sleeping like a log and not sleepwalking at all. Sooo happy! Sleep is beautiful.

That's all! Staff practice + Survivor tonight. Oh yeeeeah!

I've never been to CT, either. But I was in Boston and that was nice, too.

Also:
I like ABBA.

Boston is hotsauce! I love Boston.

Connecticut is okay; my dad lived there for a bit. I don't recall getting over to Hartford, though. The thing I'd probably do is check out NYC, because it's only like 2 hours away by car.
