This just in: the upcoming iPod Flash! LOOK AT IT. It's so small and cute that it boggles the mind. Holy crap.

Dress shopping for the office party was a total bust yesterday. I didn't have a lot of time to put into it, but I didn't really need it, because the selection at each department store I went to was tiny (and by tiny, I mean maybe 1 or 2 small racks of dresses) and pathetic. There weren't many dresses to choose from to begin with; throw in the fact that most of the dresses present were a size 8 or below, and that leaves maybe 2 choices. Boooo! I'm quite tired of being marginalized by the fashion world because I am not heroin-chic skinny. (well, not that size 8 is heroin-chic skinny, but seriously, there were a lot of size 3/4s on those racks. I don't know about y'all, but I'd look *terrifying* if I ever got that skinny)

But you know, even leaving the sizing factor out of the equation, there were still a lot of truly fugly dresses that I wouldn't ever want to wear, even if they *did* fit. Also, black is apparently The Color for cocktail dresses this year, because at least 75% of the dresses I saw were black, or had some kind of black overlay. This is a huge bummer, because all of my formal dresses are black, so I really didn't want *yet* another black dress.

So, I only found one dress that I liked, at JC Penney. I liked the style, didn't entirely love the fit, and--you guessed it--it was black. I'm going to try a few more places this evening, but I don't hold out a lot of hope, because man, the stores just don't seem to care much about formalwear right now. The one at JC Penney *was* on clearance, so I may go back for it if I don't find anything today, because while I don't 100% love it, I realize that I like it better than anything I currently own.

On the brighter side of things, Closer was a pretty good movie. Not exactly a happy-and-chipper story, but well directed and well acted. You kind of end up hating the characters by the end because, well, they all act kind of jerky, and they each have their own set of weird dysfunctions in relationships, but they are, at least, interesting to watch.

In an attempt to make myself feel better, I think I may go in and have my hair done over lunch tomorrow! My salon is only a few blocks away from my office, and I am long overdue. It would be nice to have serviceable hair to go with the fancy dress.

Also, getting a haircut is a prime excuse to showcase the awesomeness of my early Christmas present: a new digital camera! :D It's not the exact kind I've been coveting, but it's definitely comparable, and it takes *way* better photos than my old one. (seriously. I did comparison shots in my room. It is GOLD, y'all.) Yee! If I find a cool dress, I may take some pictures of myself all done up for the office party.

In other news, I randomly hopped on the [livejournal.com profile] hip_domestics community yesterday, and HOLY CRAP it's eating my Friends Page alive. It's only been a day and I'm already kind of annoyed... beh.

Anyway! That's all for the moment.

I don't know if you're really wanting a *dress*, but I've been seeing lots of nifty long dressy jackets in the stores recently, that could be worn over a dress or pants/skirt and top. Things like this, this and this...

I dunno, just a thought.

I feel your pain about clothes. EVERYTHING is made for people who are, literally, anorexically-thin. I cannot shop in most mall stores: Express, Abercrombie (not that I'd want to), Lerner, American Eagle Outfitters, the Gap, etc. ... all of those stores do not have clothing that will fit me. Once in a blue moon I will find something, but it's always for my top, never my bottom. It makes shopping a very depressing and evil experience.

Granted, I am not a small girl at all, but I sure as hell am not morbidly obese, either. I am relegated to Lane Bryant and the fat lady sections of major department/chain stores.

I can't tell you how badly this pisses me off. Our nation IS the fattest country in the world; we have the highest percentage of obese people, anywhere. We are inundated with fast food ads, processed goods, and a million other crappy ways of consuming food (not that I eat fast food). YET, the majority of clothing is meant for the thin. WTF???

It's Bis (http://www.bisnation.com/)! The quote is from one of their songs: Monstarr (http://www.musicsonglyrics.com/B/Bis/Bis%20-%20Monstarr%20lyrics.htm).
