I heard about some Taiji (er, Tai Chi) classes that are offered locally, and I'm thinking about taking some, because I want to learn more forms. (no, that couldn't *possibly* be the Wushu deprivation talking! ::cough::) I'm not sure if it's the kind of class I'm looking for--namely, something similar in format to what you'd get at a wushu school, that would teach me forms I could potentially use in competition. So, maybe I'll just try it and see. *After* I find out how much it is.

OH MY GOD EWWW. There was a spider hanging like 3 inches from my face a minute ago! Fortunately, it was small and I got rid of it pretty easily, but still, that was creepy. I'm such a sissy when it comes to insects and arachnids.

Well, I got in late today, because a vicious round of cramps snuck up on me a little after midnight last night, and kept me up until after 2a. *Yay*. :p I'm feeling mostly better now, but I still have to get through yoga later on, and possibly some lifting.

It has been decided that I'm heading up to Portland this weekend! Well, it's only for Sunday, but [livejournal.com profile] shannidee is having a party, so it should be good times. I may or may not stop at Fry's, depending on whether or not a certain large-ish sum of money shows up in time.

I NEED SNACKAGE. But the honor box in the break room is woefully empty! NOOOOOO ;_;

Your spider story reminded me of this morning, when I was in the bathroom and I saw a spider on the wall. I tried to pursue it to catch it, but it crawled into the outlet on the wall and just sat there, with like two of its legs hanging out. Spiders = CREEPY.

My co-worker David offers Tai Chi lessons. What I've seen of him looks very good and he's been doing it a long time. I can inquire if he's taking new students if you'd like. My friend Charles also attends class at one of the local schools. If you saw the Tai Chi demo during International Week last spring, that's the teacher from that school.

That'd be great! If you can feel him out on price, too, that would be helpful. I'm not looking for private instruction or anything, just a group class.

Actually I think all he does is private instruction, but I'll inquire anyway.

Is it David who works at the university? Does individual or small group instruction on the univ. grounds a couple times a week? I haven't met him, but know some folks who know him and one who has been taking lessons from him. He sounds great and I think is starting a new class at the end of the month. I believe he charges $5 per session. I was actually really excited and planning on joining that class. But, the person I know who has been training under him is now my ex and she doesn't want me taking the same class. I'm trying to be understanding, though I don't see why it should be a problem, she dumped me, but I don't think I'd be distracted by her presence, why should she by mine? Anyhow, so, I've been trying to search for alternatives, but am not seeing anything that sounds like I'd get as much for my time and money. I'd really like to have that individual attention and critique and to move along at my own pace instead of being stuck with following a class.

Anyway, if it is the same David, just wanted to say I've also gotten a great impression of his skills and teaching, and am also interested in any info on local tai chi teachers/classes, as well as what David's plans are for future classes. I'd really like to learn from him, but am trying not to cause problems, as my ex has been one quite a devoted student of his, but is saying she'd leave his class if I decide to take it at this point.

Sounds like the same guy. You ought to talk to him sometime. He's fairly approachable. And it totally sucks that your ex is being so immature.

You wouldn't happen to know his last name or any contact info would you? I've realized I don't know how to contact him and haven't been able to get ahold of the ex to see if she'd actually give me his contact info. I think he is starting a class within the next week or so, and would like to speak with him.

Dude.
The other day I was sitting at my computer(read: laying in my bed which is a mattress sitting on the floor) when a giant weird freaky spider was crawling around on the floor less than twelve inches away. Now, not being a wussy nancy boy I decided the best thing to do would be to kill it. With a paper so as not to soil my hands.

But when I reached for it, it scuttled like some freaky steroid Marion Jones spider and disappeared behind the heater RIGHT NEXT TO MY BED.

I can only assume that I swallowed it in my sleep that night and that the eggs it layed in the back of my throat are going to hatch any day now.
