If you've been reading my various rambles here for long, you probably know that I'm not a big political buff. I watch The Daily Show for my news, make fun of dear Shrubby's various malapropisms and grammatical blunders, and generally write off the whole election campaign business as a bunch of morons who'd rather squabble and sling mud than talk about issues.
Anyway, one of the few issues I felt strongly enough about to act upon resulted in my participating in a few online campaigns via the Human Rights Campaign. That, in itself, was pretty okay. I get the occasional notification from their mailing list, and that's pretty much it.
But, presumably through one of these HRC campaigns, I somehow landed on the mailing list for the Democratic National Committee, which also wasn't particularly bothersome in any way... that is, until a few days ago.
Because the Republican National Convention is happening this week, the DNC feels compelled to e-mail me multiple times EVERY DAY asking me to donate money to them. I realize that it's part of their job to raise campaign funds and the like, but guess what? I HAVE NO MONEY TO DONATE. And if I *had* money that I intended to donate, I'd have done so in response to one of the FIRST ten e-mails I'd gotten from various members of the frickin' DNC.
All I did was decide to make a tiny, token effort to be more involved in what's happening to my country, and now I'm getting hit up for money 3+ times a day? I'm wondering if it wouldn't have been better for me to just stay under my rock and out of this political crapola entirely. :p

In a semi-related note, did anyone catch John Kerry's appearance on The Daily Show a couple days ago? I saw a few minutes of it, and he actually said some things that made me like him, but the ep got cleared off the TiVo before I could finish the rest of it.
