"SPOON!"

I can't believe it snowed today! It didn't really stick at all, but the fact that it snowed twice in one winter, in Eugene, is totally unexpected. I also had to drive home from the movie theater in the middle of the snowfall, which kind of sucked, but it was still really cool at the same time. I wish it stuck more, because I would have loved to take some pictures. Everything looked so pristine and gorgeous the last time it snowed, but I was at Uni without my camera, so it melted before I got the chance.

So, The Last Samurai was *excellent*. OMFG.

I really enjoyed this movie. It was a really well-done treatment of the material, and it showed a lot of respect for the culture and the ways of the Samurai. Like [livejournal.com profile] axiom_ mentioned to me previously, the movie didn't depict the Western way as being inherently superior, and I liked that a lot. My only complaint was the kiss between Tom Cruise and the woman caring for him. They had already developed an *assload* of tension between the two of them, and the kiss just seemed unneccessary.

Ken Watanabe rocked my socks off! He's a hell of an actor, and very expressive. The Japanese actors in general seemed really expressive throughout--they communicated a great deal of feeling at times, even when they had little or no dialogue to do it with. Tom Cruise did pretty well for himself, too, and turned in a very serviceable performance. But gaw, in the end, Ken Watanabe stole the show. Katsumoto was *awesome*.

There were some slow parts--seriously, enough shots of Tom Cruise looking angsty and/or pensive, already--but otherwise, I can't complain. I cried so hard at the end! I knew before I even saw the movie that the Samurai couldn't triumph in the end, because it didn't go that way historically, but even though I knew it would happen, I still got so weepy when they finally lost. They totally hooked me.

So, yeah. Go see this!

In other news, the guys at work seem quite determined to rent Okie Noodling and watch it. We were talking about it today, and it's apparently this *really* bizarre Midwestern activity, which involves catching catfish with your bare hands, and it's only legal in three states. I can't help but laugh about it, so who knows, it could prove interesting.

So, hey, I'm in a pretty good mood. Work was okay; we spent the first hour and a half just sitting around the office, because nobody was calling. Things picked up after that, but it was pretty calm, overall.

I smell like flowers today, and this makes me happy. Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner was on sale the other day, so I got some. Their commercials are terribly stupid, but I like their product in spite of that. It makes my hair especially soft and fragrant.

To do tomorrow: finish the supplemental questions for the Uni job, do some freelance stuff, try to figure out why Illustrator keeps crashing on startup, finish vacuuming, either play DDR or find a wushu practice spot, maybe apply for more jobs.

Anyhoo, I'm off to find something to eat, since I had a late lunch, but didn't really have any dinner.
