batskeets: (yan!)

I left the house during daylight hours, today! So, I guess you could say I'm alive again, although the head cold portion of my recent plague has yet to subside. At the moment, I sound kind of like Milhouse might sound if he were inside a glass dome, talking into a pillow. ;p And I don't feel my best, that's for certain. But I suppose the worst is over.

And now, the long-overdue TMBG recap! The show was great! :D I arrived somewhere between 7:30 and 7:45 on Friday night, and milled around for a bit, eventually deciding not to buy any concert schwag. I made the smart decision of leaving my purse in the car, so the plastic didn't tempt me, and the $15 in cash I had was not enough for a t-shirt. Bwaha! After that, I secured a choice spot up front, where [livejournal.com profile] theho and [livejournal.com profile] nukey also happened to be. :) We were later joined by a guy that Jan used to work with at the Ol' Dirty (Emerald), whom I eventually figured out also has a class with me. It's my 8am class this term, so it took me a second. ::aldsfhlasdhflkahsdfklasf::

The opener was The Long Winters--but only 2 members of the four-piece band were actually present. They were still funny and sounded good, and worked some nice vocal harmony, but I'm left curious as to how they'd sound with the other two pieces in tow. After they wrapped it up, there was a break, in which some random and sometimes terrifying music was piped in over the loudspeaker. All I have to say is: I should *NOT* have to hear a Shania Twain remix at a TMBG SHOW! :p

And then, TMBG came on. Yay! They were pretty fired up throughout, or at least, Flansburgh seemed to be. Linnell didn't move much, but still played well, and I was still surprised to learn later that both the Johns were in various stages of the flu that night. Highlights included Ana Ng, Birdhouse In Your Soul, Dead, Fingertips, Istanbul, James K. Polk, New York City, Why Does The Sun Shine. Oh, and SHOEHORN WITH TEETH. ::dies:: I can't believe they played that one. ::laughs:: I'm sure I'm forgetting some others, too.

Anyway, post show, we were milling around outside, for a bit, and heard that some folks were getting things autographed inside, so we trickled back in, and I arrived on the scene just in time to get my ticket stub signed by Flansburgh before he took off. Weeeee! :D I wish I'd had something better to sign, but in retrospect, if I'd stopped to buy a CD on my way back in, he'd have been gone already. I briefly flirted with the idea of having him sign my t-shirt from the last show I went to, I'd never be able to wear it again. ;_; And the shirt kind of had the Funk of Forty-Thousand Years on it, anyway, because I'd been wearing it all day, and inside the incredibly hot and stuffy venue.

But, yee! I have an autograph! I don't care beyond that! :D What an awesome show. And now, I can say that I'm sick with They Might Be Giants' flu germs. (not likely, but it sounds cool in an incredibly nerdy and pathetic sort of way. ::asldkfhlkdfhladsflashdfk::)

Most of the other things I've been doing only merit short bites, because I'm, y'know, sick and all. So here we go:

  • I successfully downloaded and installed RO. :D Of course, I have to go and pound on things some more to get all my swank equipment back, but whatever.
  • Work was cake last night, and we made out like bandits on tips. :)
  • I still haven't gotten my pay from Law for March/April, and I'm 99.9% sure I turned in a timesheet, so Demian and I are going to go and harass the higher-ups about it tomorrow. Grrr. Don't need this right now.
  • I have a ton to get done within the next couple weeks, most of which pertains to graduation and what classes I'll be taking last. I still want to take intensive Japanese, but I need to check on the money situation.
  • Not sure what to send my ma for Mother's Day. She's allergic to flowers, doesn't want candy, and, well, she usually doesn't want me to buy her anything at all, for any given holiday. :p Feh. Complicates matters.
  • I wish I'd actually hear back from the places I apply to every so often, even if it's a rejection. At least then I'd know that *somebody* was looking at my fscking resume.

I think that covers it. Tonight = Buffy Invasion. Woo! Must study kanji and work on the second Comm. Design project, in the meantime. For some reason, I'm on a Daler Mehndi kick. ::laughs::

I'm off to do something semi-productive now.

So, in the end, I decided not to go to the show because I had been told it was the tour for their kids CD... and this was by a newspaper review! And I thought that it would be a mockery of past TMBG concerts, so I spent my money elsewhere. I'm quite upset to hear that I missed out.

They did play a couple songs from the kids CD that I recognized from the Portland show last summer, but it was a good selection of older and newer, overall! I felt like they might have mixed it up a bit more because they've never played Eugene before, but it was good. :)
