I want you to do something for me.

Look at this photo.

And ask yourself: Does she look like a hot chick to you? Does she look like a normal woman? Do you think she's fat at all?

And, with your answers to the above in mind, I'd like you to read what follows:

That girl was a PLUS-SIZE model.

(Yes, you read that right.)

Think about it: when you think "Plus Size" what do you think of? You might think of, say, an obese relative, or a size 24 lady that you might have seen on the street, or one of those guys who gets so fat that he gets stuck in a hallway of his house.

You certainly wouldn't think of a girl that looks like the one in that photo.

I know I probably beat this over the head on a regular basis, but damnit, that's a PERFECTLY NORMAL WOMAN. If there's anything obese, overweight, or "plus" about her, I'll eat my hat.

If this whole fad of calling skeletal, undefed women "beautiful" ever burns out, I think we'll all be a *lot* better off.

THAT'S a... WHAT!?!

THE HELL--!?

THAT'S supposed to be a PLUS model!? What the hell is wrong with these people! She's a wonderfully proportioned woman! She's voloptuous, MAYBE, but a PLUS!? Never!

For crying out loud, what kind of society is this where a woman/girl can be a "plus" size if she looks like she actually has room for working organs? The whole Twiggy starve/look-alike thing should have long blown over by now... Take me back to the 30-50's where a curvy dame was in demand! Curvaceous chests, birthin' hips and rounded legs for all, I say!

This is much akin to my pissyness with pants... upon examination of a pair of pants, an "average" size leg fits a girl who is six feet tall with a 0 waist. How many six feet tall juniors do YOU see running around? Exactly. And size 0!? THE HELL--!?

Oh, God, don't let me get started... *rants into the night*

Heh. I like "plus sized" women. They are a lot more fun to hug. the ultra skinny "epitomes of beauty" are bony and poke me in the sides when I hug 'em. ^_^

Hmmm

I would've guessed "she" was a man!

I think they must have used the wrong picture

This girl is obviously *not* a plus size. She's not even an average size. What site is claiming she is a plus size? I'd like to write them an email explaining how wrong it is to put a picture of a woman that thin and claim she is a plus size. What is this wolrd coming too :-P

Every couple or years or so, the range of sizes at any given shop which has, or specializes in, the plus range widens and the baseline gets lower. Over here, a size 14 (US size 12) is the current plus size baseline. It's also worth noting just how much this corresponds with re-evaluations of sizing. Example: About the same time 14US entered the Lane Bryant baseline, the Gap dropped all of its sizes down by one (a medium became a large and so on, with the old XL dropping off the charts completely).

Also keep in mind that models for a given range of clothing are often going to be smaller than the women the clothes are intended for. "I'll look thin if I wear that."

When I think "plus size," I now not only have to think of myself, but of myself when my ribs were sticking out. Because I still had tits that could choke a horse, see.

This is not coherent -- I should actually be asleep. I think my point is that, yeah, that's appalling, but it's nothing new. :(

Yes, it *is* nothing new, and that's part of what appalls me. The fact that such a mindset has been maintained for as long as it has is not a good sign.

ROTFL! Well, that aside, she's still not a very husky "man". ^_-

Awww yea!

I was telling my boi the same thing when he started worrying that he was putting on a few pounds... bony elbows and pokey ribs don't do much to enhance cuddle quality. :)

Her tummy does seem to stick out a little. But maybe it's the pose or something. OTOH, her face seems too thin somehow (and too pale.. who did her makeup!?)

Oh well. Anyway, I've seen plenty of old pics of women in various states of undress. I can't say I go for the "Renaissance look", but I don't think many guys would complain if they had a girl shaped like Marilyn Monroe or Bettie Page (well, Bettie seems a little masculine, but that's not quite my point).

I don't actually have anything against twigs either.. but people need to realize that very few girls have the frames to be twigs, and the ones who don't, shouldn't even try.

Sick...

She looks normal for her weight and size. She doesn't look like a plus-size model. What the hell is she, a 6? Get the hell out of here.

Going off on a little tangent, it pisses me off when normal-looking girls, especially big tall girls, get this delusion that they need to be rail-thin to look good. Er, big tall girl, you goan look awful if you don't have any padding. Perfect example is a friend of mine who recently lost a lot of weight and feels like she needs to lose more, which is retarded. She looked fine before and she looks fine now. Maybe it's because I'm not a guy?

I see fat girls dressing like sluts and showing too much and there are thin girls who show too much. Not everyone is comfortable with their bodies, and maybe some people are too comfortable, but I think it's just as gross to see eight sets of breasts on a fat lady as it is to see the bones beneath a girl's skin. Thanks, but I'll maintain chubby at a comfortable size 10...

Well, I've always been pretty much a stick, and the most recent thing I bought was a size 8. So, by that scale, what is a normal-sized person like in the picture supposed to be? I may be a stick, but I don't look anorexic or anything, which is the whole point. As long as you are healthy, it shouldn't matter what size you are.

Right on

"As long as you are healthy, it shouldn't matter what size you are."

Bingo. Whatever the best weight is for you to maintain a healthy lifestyle is all that matters. Of course, the equation is not this simple, but it should be.
