Why do I always get into the creative spurts at insane hours of the night?? I don't get it.
At any rate, I posted a Don't Need To See It rating of The Animal at Flicking It! I have the review for Shrek half-written, I'll probably post it tomorrow or Monday. And theeeenn hopefully I'll have time to write up Swordfish and Moulin Rouge later in the week. I have a lot of catching up to do.
I'm facing a minor problem with the site though--namely, the fact that I never, ever see crappy movies. I mean yeah, if I was actually a hardcore reviewer that gets to go see all these movies for free, then yeah, I'd probably see more lousy ones, because even if it sucks, at least it's not costing me money. BUT I'm not, which means I'm paying money for every flick I see. Pair that with my uncanny ability to spot a truly bad movie from miles away (hence, why Don't Need To See It works for me), and you've got a girl without any reviews of bad movies that she's actually seen. I dunno what that'll do for/to my credibility, but whatever. If I start getting invited to special free screenings, then maybe things will change.
Time for bed, seriously this time. G'night!

Date: 2001-06-10 08:34 am (UTC)Of course I'm of the opinion that almost no movie is actually not worth watching. There are a number of movies that I don't particularly want to pay for, but few to none that I wouldn't watch. My personaly favorite rating scheme, on its simplest level, involves saying whether it should be seen in a theater, rented/bought on video/dvd, seen on tv if its showing, or avoided entirely. Most things don't fall below the see on TV if its showing level. But again, I tend to be more appreciative of movies then most, and look at the good parts as opposed to the bad. I also tend to avoid most movies like 'the animal' just for the sake of my own dignity.
But yeah, its best to actually see the movies before writing the reviews :-P, including the bad ones.
So you know what you really need on Flicking It? A method of posting comments on your reviews. 'cause, like, people need to be able to rant and rave about your review, it helps, really it does. Or at least they need to be able to easily say they agree with you, and clutter up the page with lots of praise about how cool you are or something.
Re:
Date: 2001-06-10 02:38 pm (UTC)I always thought I was a little easy to please when it came to movies, because I've liked some stuff in the past that was pretty mediocre by the standards of the big critics. I enjoyed Swordfish, even though big critics are hating it. But I pretty much knew I would, hence why I went.
So, for the sake of being a little different from other reviewers, I feel like I should at least air out why I'm avoiding certain flicks. People would find it a little odd if I only had good reviews of everything. I'm probably going to go over a lot of more mediocre productions this summer, when it will be a friendly time for video rentals.
And, at any rate, my opinion is what counts, since it's my web site. I'm only saying that I *think* certain films are going to suck. And it's not like all reviewers in the world agree anyway. :)
Comments would be cool. I was thinking about a forum or something, but I get shit for traffic right now, so I think it would just depress me to keep checking for comments on the forum and not see any. ::rotfl::
