So somebody in the anime LJ community posted that they've watched 170 anime series and 30 movies. I am officially astounded and boggled by this...

BUT it is not because said person actually accomplished this feat. I'm actually more astonished at the thought that there are 170 series and 30 movies that don't suck ass! Maybe they're including hentai in this assessment?

Just because someone has watched that many doesn't mean they didn't suck. I'm sure quite a few of those actually did suck..

The question is, who actually decides to keep track of that kind of thing.

That's a buncha stuff...

But I could see how it would be possible. I mean, there are a ton of anime series and movies. There are about 13-15(? unsure) Dragonball movies ALONE. That'd take up half that movie amount. Then there are the other Toonami movies, plus when they used to do that Anime movie week on Sci-Fi about four years ago.

My question is whether or not s/he counted TV series and OAV series as one and the same. I'd be picky about that one, because OAVs can last as little as six episodes. Heck, Jungle de Ikou is a series that's only 3 half-hour episodes long!

And, of course, I'm sure some of the series sucked. But then, you don't get to know if it sucks or not if you don't experiment, so...

Makes me want to check my own anime count now. Sort of.

Oh, I can totally believe that there's that much anime in the world! And yes, OAVs are generally far less time-consuming than TV series.

And being a Dragonball fan sure helps, seeing as that's like, the series that never ENDS. ::cries::

Heh, usually when a series is going to be really crappy, I can tell just from previews and word of mouth, and therefore avoid watching it like the plague. I guess not all people are blessed in that manner. ^_-

Oh, Dragonball does end...

At episode 300. We're lucky that that's counting the original Dragonball series that hasn't been aired on Toonami (or probably ever will... sigh.).

I think the excruciating part of the series is that they've taken so long to translate/cut/dub episodes for airing on NA TV. In doing so, they just show old episodes over and over, and then are so demi-perfectionist as to want it in ORDER when it does air, taking even longer than usual. I'm wondering if we'll get to see GT at all at this rate...

Oh, yes, I'm a Dragonball fan. Don't beat me. To be honest, I'm not entirely pleased with the anime myself... it's much better in manga form, where the fights were short and sweet. Luckily, I have a timed VCR so I can fast forward to the good stuff. What can I say... it takes all types. I hope.... ^_^,

Heh, well it's nice to hear that you're a manga fan, because that's one of my big gripes about the anime: It takes like, two to three WEEKS worth of episodes to have one measly fight. :p

CN announced acquisition of original Dragonball a few weeks ago, didn't they?

I could be wrong...

Really?

This I must find out for myself. I don't see how they're going to edit some of those, though, considering that the first few episodes were pretty crude (heck, one episode revolved around getting Yamucha to have an H-related nosebleed so he could fight an invisible enemy...). -.-; Look-see time!

Actually, when I went to actually SEE how many episodes of Dragonball exist, the total comes to a grand 508 episodes. The first season is 153, the second (Z) is 291, and the third (GT) is 64.

I hate not having my stats right... :P
