I've gotta howwwwwllll!
Jan. 9th, 2008 10:59 amThere's a gaggle of very loud dogs near my house, that start yowling for several minutes on an almost-daily basis. Sometimes, there are emergency vehicle sirens going off in the area, so I get why they'd be complaining then, but other times, it seems like they're just howling for no apparent reason.
Thing is, I wouldn't even be bothered by that, if they weren't engaging in this behavior at, oh, 5:00 or 6:00am, and jolting me out of an otherwise peaceful slumber. This whole "8 hours of sleep per night" goal isn't going to be helpful, if they keep waking my ass up in the middle of it!
Anyhoo, I'm currently reading The Blind Watchmaker, and last night, I got to a section where Dawkins likened DNA to ROM, and some of his comments about ROM and RAM made me wonder: are computers becoming accessible enough to the common man that people will be using terms like ROM and RAM, without knowing what the acronyms stand for? We're moving towards a point where a person doesn't have to be particularly savvy about technology and computers in order to use a computer, so I can easily picture some of those less-savvy people talking about RAM without knowing what it stands for, or why it's an appropriate term.
Also, check out this video, which is a nice way of looking at the Global Warming debate, no matter what side of the debate you're on. (I am most definitely not one of those who thinks we can happily ignore global warming, by the way) It's pretty corny in places, but it makes sense.
Diet Hell Countdown: 12 days. Got pretty hungry yesterday afternoon/evening, but I'm surviving. Wushu was tough yesterday, but I think that's just diet-related fatigue, so it should hopefully pass by next practice.
Oh yeah, and if all goes well, I should be getting my first free Tae Kwon Do lesson this evening. Oy. I hope they don't make me hit anybody anytime soon. XD
