Political Foo
Oct. 19th, 2004 11:21 amThe chance to have your voice heard *should* be enough (nag nag nag), but here's another incentive to vote: possibly winning $100,000! Sign up, already!
I feel the need to post this link (stolen from
solipsistnation), because I, too, hear that some folks I know are considering voting for Bush. I suppose that
polysciguy gets a pass on this one, because he knows about 80 billion times more about politics and economics than I probably ever will, but I hope the rest of y'all are paying attention:
Scroll down to the second letter and read it. This happened here in my lovely state of Oregon, so it's quite close to home. And it's not the first letter or article of its kind that I've seen before, so this is not an isolated incident.
Regardless of how you feel about Bush's politics, you are probably going to disagree with him on *something*, eventually. And, incidents like the one above certainly make *me* think that he doesn't take very kindly to those that don't agree with him. Do you really want to vote for somebody who is willing to stomp all over your civil liberties, just so he doesn't have to hear something he doesn't like? Free speech exists for a reason.
I can understand those who are nonplussed with John Kerry. He seems almost afraid to take a really firm stance, because he needs every vote he can get. (Bush supporters do seem to be incredibly unwavering in their support, after all, just as the anti-Bush folks are unwavering in their hatred) But, I think I'd rather have a guy who is a little fuzzy on his stance and who is willing gather more information and re-think his beliefs, than a guy who firmly takes a wrong stance and stubbornly clings to it in the face of all criticism and opposition.
ANYWAY! To lighten the mood some, here's the video of Jon Stewart on Crossfire. Yes, I'm probably quite biased, because he definitely ranks on the list of Top 5 Celebrities Whose Leg I'd Inadvertently Wind Up Humping If We Ever Met, but GOD, this was some classic stuff. :D
And! I'm off like a dirty shirt.
