Following up on the post about my book idea, I am making a Google Wave thread to plan the Random Acts of Happiness! I doubt that I'll have time to document these in March, but it's okay, because I suspect they'd be better served by waiting for warmer weather, anyway.

I added [livejournal.com profile] praenomenal and [livejournal.com profile] marykae because they're already in my Wave list, and I sent out Wave invites to other (local) people who responded with interest in participating. Hopefully you guys will actually receive the Wave invites soon.

Also, BIRTHDAY PARTY THEMES! I find myself leaning more towards "silly" than "fancy" at the moment, so I have two in mind:

80s Geek Nostalgia: This would center around nerdy things from the 80s, and things you geeked out over as a kid.
PROS: Guests can go as simple as a wearing a retro t-shirt, or be ambitious and dress in a crazy costume.
CONS: Theme decorations and food are less clear-cut and possibly harder to execute

Superheroes: Pretty obvious. Can pick an existing superhero, or make up your own.
PROS: Much potential for creativity. Also gives me an excuse to wear Psylocke costume again if I want to. (heh)
CONS: Decor and food could be similarly difficult in execution. But probably easier to come up with ideas.

Do you have ideas or resources for decor and such? HALP.

I don't really use wave much. I may have to be reminded to log in :-(

of course i wouldn't get to come, but an 80's geeky party sounds like a LOT of fun. radical, even.

Agreed on the 80's geek sounding swank. "Superheroes" has been done, anyway.

As for Wave, it's damn nifty, but there's so few people on it, and so few reasons to use it in lieu of other things. I can hope that it continues to spread, though. When it gets a client (as opposed to a website), it'll be much better, methinks.

I'm so definitely still in, although I dunno how much I'll be able to do the whole Wave thing. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have a chance to, ya know, actually sign up for it.

As for the party, I'd say Eighties Geek, all the way (it's all about Legos and Voltron). I could prolly help come up with a few food/drink ideas (already have a couple, honestly).

I love how nobody uses google wave... because nobody uses google wave.

Except me. I love google wave, and it has become invaluable, as you well know :-)

At the very least, there can be a "Pretty In Pink" signature cocktail, and "Breakfast Club" snack sandwiches.

The 80's remains my least favorite decade of the last 100 years (well, okay, least favorite that I lived through) but there's plenty of potential for wackiness there. :P

(Someone should dress up as Susan, and then other people should go around asking if anyone's seen Susan. This would work better if she's actually named Susan.)

I am trying to spread the love! It's actually good for coordinating things with 4+ people, and it'll be better now that they have e-mail notifications up.

I kind of wish the Wushu Collegiates judges group was using it, actually... right now all we have is an enormous Google Doc and ~12 other people editing it.

I was also contemplating the Old Hollywood Glamour idea, but I have to admit I'd be at a loss for ideas on that due to lack of knowledge! (I have never seen Casablanca. Seriously. ^^;)

Duuuuuude I threw an epic Red Carpet Extravaganza for my birthday in LA, right before I moved here. I could help you out on that one. ;)

Or any other theme you may think of. Want some new theme ideas? I freaking LIVE for theme parties! Can I be your party planner? :D

Oh, I agree. S'why I'm focusing on the Legos. ;)

I like your ideas! I was thinking of going a little Mad Scientist and trying to recreate Crystal Pepsi in alcoholic, non-ass-tasting form. I had an idea for food, but...er, I kinda lost it. Hrm.
