Aug. 24th, 2009 10:43 amI think I'm done freaking out about my knee. (I hope) I'll be looking up a specialist today or tomorrow, and it is starting to feel better, finally. I've been applying ice to it post-workout, and
saofoir showed me this cool trick with a frozen water bottle that I hope to try. I had my crying jag, and now I'm over it.
I'm also going to replace running with biking for a while... which irritates me a bit, because I felt like I was actually getting halfway decent at running, for ONCE, but eh, you can't run at all with a non-functional knee, right? ;p I might even try swimming once in a while, but I tend to avoid that because it always makes me ridiculously hungry. Seriously, I did not lose a single pound on swim team in high school, because I'd come home from practice and eat EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD. But, now that I think about it, it might've been mistaking dehydration for hunger. Yay for being more educated about health and nutrition.

Anyhoo, this weekend was equal parts unexpected and awesome.
Saturday's photoshoot went swimmingly--well, aside from a model my client picked, whose skills I was not entirely impressed with--and I owe a lot of that to the help of
matrixleap. Having an assistant officially rocks; I don't think I've ever had a shoot where I felt quite that worry-free, and it was so nice to not have 10000 things to coordinate all at the same time. I'm hard-pressed to think of a way that it could've gone better. :D
typsie's party was fun and crazy, and at times it felt like sensory overload. Arriving there in my already-scattered and generally overwhelmed mental state probably didn't help with that, but it's cool. Staying sober is still a challenge, but I think I'm getting a little more comfortable with it. I love that I'm so constantly reminded that I know some really excellent people. Even just a few short minutes of contact is enough to drive that point home. You guys are beautiful.
Yesterday was a wushu demo (yeah, surprise!) in West Linn, which went fine. We only had 4 performers, so I had to do two forms, and my instructors decided I should perform nandao... which was a bit scary because I'm not even done learning the form yet. I only had to do the first half of the form, and aside from a really dumb moment where the hooked part of the sword guard got snagged under one of the frog buttons on my uniform, I think I sold it.
I hustled back from the demo for my fashion photog collaboration, which wound up being an All-Me shoot, since the other photographer cancelled (via email!) 2 hours prior! And on top of that, she'd also planned to do the makeup for the shoot, so I was down a makeup artist, too. Jeeeeez. The hairstylist almost cancelled, too, because her car had started leaking craptons of fluid, but she got her husband to pick her up and bring her over. AND she even pulled together the models' own makeup with some of the extra I have lying around at the studio, and did their faces, too. (there's a reason why this stylist is one of my absolute favorites)
I'm glad we went ahead with everything, though, because it was *really* fun. We had some very cool clothes, and the models were both cool chicks with excellent posing skills (one of them even baked us gluten-free peanut butter cookies!), and I drove way the hell out on Sauvie to a location that worked even better than I'd hoped. It was cool to be shooting fashion again, and I'm looking forward to working on these shots.
Things are looking up today. Boy is back from rafting with his fam, and I have a surprisingly empty week outside of The Job. Which, really, is exactly what I need, at this moment. Yay. :D
