SO! Judging results from the State Fair came in yesterday, and all three of my submissions will be exhibited at the Fair! Considering over 2/3rd of the photos sent in don't even get exhibited, AND I am a first-time submitter, I'm pretty pumped about this. Also, 5 out of the 6 7 of the 8 photos that Boy submitted made it in, too! We are awesome. \m/

We are also a bit surprised by the judging scores, though. Boy and I both agreed on which of my 3 shots we thought would do the best, and I've gotten compliments on that shot, too, so I had high hopes for it. But, the judges rated it the lowest of my 3. And same with Boy's: the one that he expected to do the best, and had gotten the most compliments on, was the shot that didn't get accepted for exhibition.

So, in no particular order, here are the three shots I put in. Which one(s) speak to you the most?

I'm also starting to look through some of my China photos again, and I'm kicking myself, because I'm seeing a lot more nice shots that probably would've made the cut. I guess I'll have to save those for the book. :)

I'd say the black and white (#2) is my top choice, then #1 - the tags/labels/prayer knots(?) - not sure what they are.

The bottom one is really washed out. It may be my monitor, but the contrast/colors just don't do much for me.

The black and white is a little asymmetrical, and that's the only thing throwing it off. And I'd probably burn the umbrella a little to take down the highlights. But those are minor piddling things. It's a really beautiful shot.

The first one really jumped out at me because of the color...but I like the people in the third one. The old man in the hat and the guy next to him with a fan.

I'm going to say the first one. I don't know what those are exactly, but they remind me of the tibetan prayers that people scroll on and leave in places of spiritual importance. I also like the contrast of the closest ones to the ones that are further away. I think the fact that I don't speak Chinese but was still drawn to the inscriptions says something too.

I also like the black and white a lot too. I'm so proud of you. You must be so stoked about this. :)

1st image because of the depth of field and color.
