I finally burned some new music to play in my car last night. Guitar Hero reminded me recently that I like Wolfmother. Also, for some reason I can't quite put my finger on, I'm really digging Santogold.

It does remind me that I'm *really* out-of-touch with current music. I occasionally hear decent tracks on the radio, but most of it either sucks, or is music from a prior decade. Do y'all have any recommendations for things I might like that are new?

For reference, here's the list I have on pretty much every social networking site I belong to, to give you an idea of what I generally like:

80's Music (from synthpop to butt rock, you name it!), the Anniversary, Atari Teenage Riot, Bis, Cibo Matto, the Clash, D'Erlanger, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Devo, FAKE?, the Flaming Lips, hide, Kuroyume, Laputa, Led Zeppelin, Luna Sea, the Mad Capsule Markets, Mary Prankster, musicals, the New Pornographers, Nine Inch Nails, Oblivion Dust, Pink Floyd, Pizzicato 5, PJ Harvey, Rancid, RENT, Rufus Wainwright, Sleater-Kinney, Smashing Pumpkins, Social Distortion, Soul Coughing, Spock's Beard, the Strokes, System of a Down, The Ramones, They Might Be Giants, Tori Amos, Utada Hikaru, X Japan.

And... GO! ;)

Lately I've been super-addicted to a somewhat ethereal-sounding trip-hop group called All India Radio. Their album "The Fall" ist just mind-blowing.

You like a lot of the same stuff I do. :)

You should check out I Am X, in particular their album "The Alternative." I've also been really into a band called Metric lately. If you haven't heard Blonde Redhead, you need to, post haste.

I can make you copies of stuff if you like. ^^ I have a ridiculous amount of music. Sadly, most of it is on my laptop, which is currently out of commission. :/

I get most of my music from my friends. I have to sort through it all, though. I have some of it on an external drive and some of it scattered amongst three of my machines.

I've gotten really obsessed with Neverending White Lights lately. They are a lot like Our Lady Peace, who is also not on your list, but you might give them a listen (either band! They both rock!). :)

I was going to post a tentative list of what I have here, but I think I'll post it in my LJ instead. Kinda large ...

Here we go:

How do you have Cibo Matto, Pizzicato 5, and Utada Hikaru on that list, but NOT Fantastic Plastic Machine?

Of his stuff, I recommend: Luxury, Too, Beautiful... actually, all of it is good. Oh, and the Sound Concierge albums (especially 402) are awesome too. OH and there's a remix album called "Dancing at the Disco at the End of the World" that gets a lot of play on car trips around here. Note that some of these albums are under FPM's real name, Tomoyuki Tanaka.

And btw, Wolfmother is pretty much my favorite band right now. I love playing Joker and the Thief in Rock Band SO MUCH.

I have had two consistent favorites the past year and a half or so. Take a look at The Ataris, I would suggest either "So Long, Astoria" or "Welcome The Night" (both are good but I think the latter is the better one). Or check out The Killers, their "Hot Fuss" album was fantastic. In fact that was the only CD I listened to for almost 6 months after I got it. This stuff is a few years old, but most of the main stream radio garbage does suck pretty severely.

I have found that the Musicheads podcast (http://minnesota.publicradio.org/radio/programs/musicheads/) gives one a nice mix of cool new music. I don't always go for their stuff (as I hate breathy female vocalists, emo lyrics, singer songwriters and men singing falsetto), but I always enjoy the show.

Not sure most of the stuff I listen to would be to your taste, and a lot of it isn't particularly new, anyway... but you might look around for King Hobo. It's a rockin' blues one-off/side project by members of Clutch and Opeth.
