I've been taking it easy the past couple of days, and I *finally* feel better today. Still a bit congested, but no sore throat, and I'm not exhausted. It's about damned time.
This week is looking pretty fun. I have a free ticket to Fashion Week on Thursday, so I've decided to get costumed up like some crazy fashionista. My designer friend gave me a dress, I picked up an *amazing* necklace yesterday from one of our clients, and Amy's doing me up all fabulous with her hair and makeup skillz. It's definitely not going to be my usual, but if I can't wear something over-the-top at Fashion Week, where can I? ;) Just need to find some black heels and crinoline by tomorrow...
I have a couple more athletic shoots this week, and I actually have enough energy to be excited about them, so that's very cool. Looks like we might go sailing on Sunday, too. Otherwise, I'm just taking it easy and playing it by ear. I do need to get re-centered; being sick always throws me hideously off my game.
So, the editorial shoot on Sunday... oof. I'd spent a lot of time planning it out, going back and forth with the magazine editor, selecting and arranging for wardrobe, and so forth... it's basically a project that's been months in the making.
I get long-winded here, so here's an LJ-cut:
I will say beforehand that the team was *amazing*. Our MUA was a semi-pro photographer who got her start doing makeup, and she's *such* a sweetheart. She's also one of the few local photographers whom I actually feel is underrated, and she's totally lacking any pompous attitude, too. I love that. Our hairstylist was new to me, but she was totally amazing and brought a lot of ideas to the table. And the models were both great; I just laid out the mission for them beforehand, and they busted it out awesomely.
Of course, there was a nice list of Cons to go with the Pro brought by my team:
A) shooting the editorial on 5 hours of sleep, after spending 6 hours in the rain shooting marathoners.
B) the fact that it *was* raining, which meant we couldn't shoot on location as I'd originally planned.
C) finding out that--SURPRISE!--the casting director who regularly rents out our studio decided to re-paint the floor, so it was WET when we got there, and thus totally unusable.
We crammed everyone into the office space, which was tight, given that all the equipment normally stored in the studio was also crammed into the office. And, fortunately, one of our neighbors in the building was kind enough to let us squat in his studio for the actual shooting, so we did get it done, thank GOD.
So, yeah, the images look great, because we all rocked it, in spite of fate throwing a series of monkey wrenches into my plans. Still, I'm a little disappointed, mostly because the location was such a strong part of my vision, and I didn't get to use it. It'll be an awesome editorial, though, so I'm ultimately happy, even with that bit of letdown.
Still, I want God Powers, so I can control the weather, be in multiple places at once, and make paint dry instantly. That'd be rad. ;p
