Got this in my e-mail. Hurhurhur!

If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.
With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1000.00.
With WorldCom, you would have less than $5.00 left.
If you had purchased $1000 of Delta Air Lines stock you would have $49.00 left.

But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer/wine one year ago, drank all the beer/wine, then turned in the cans/ bottles for the aluminium recycling REFUND, you would now have $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

Let your friends in on this advice, so they can get started now.

I actually had more fun with shooting the Marathon this year. They changed the parameters of my assignments a bit, and that let me get more creative. It still sucked getting up at 5:30am, and it was also no fun being asked to do medal candids--and thusly, having to holler at zoned-out, exhausted marathoners to get their attention--when my throat was still scratchy from having a cold.

But hey, it's money, and it could've been worse. They also told us to just plan on being called in to work the event next year, because they like our work, so that's always good to hear.

There were also some hilarious moments, such as when the balloon arch at the Finish line began to droop under the weight of the rain, and the volunteers were jumping up and down madly, trying to knock it back up into the air.

Or, when the two guys in charge of the Finish Line Tape intended for the first-place finishers were watching for the first-place female, didn't realize she was coming until she was about two feet away, and completely missed their cue to roll out the tape, so she could break through it as she crossed the Finish. XD

My editorial shoot also went well overall, but I have a lot of gripes that I'll save for later. The images still look awesome, so I'll let it slide for now. ;)

Are you and Ben going to be able to make it on Friday? There will be delicious food and probably a movie on the projector.

Damn, which state gives you a 21.4% purchase price bottle/can refund?

Hell if I know, but a decent punchline is a good a cause for fact distortion as any. ;)

And hey, if you assume you're buying cheap-ass canned beer at $8 for a 12-pack, and assume a 5-cent deposit refund, you'd have about $75, which is still more than any of the aforementioned stock investments.

Assuming you buy really cheap beer, a 24 pack for $13 dollars.

That means you could (we'll round up) 77 cases of beer for your $1000. Each case of beer has 24 cans in it, with a refund of $.05 per can. That's $1.20 per case of beer in refunds. Which works out to $92 in can refunds.

That's if you buy REALLY cheap crappy beer though.
