Iowa blather

The Democratic side of things was pleasing. After being beaten over the head with Hillary Clinton for the past several months, I've been dreading the idea that she'd get the nomination. But, not only did she not win in Iowa, she came in *third*. Oh, delicious schadenfreude.
I'm still undecided as to whether I'd rather have Obama or Edwards in the top spot, but it's good to see them both doing well. And yes, a black man winning in a predominantly white state is also worth noting. They chalk up Obama's overall performance to a strong showing from young voters, so hey, maybe we *are* becoming more tolerant as a people, over the generations? W00t?
Ron Paul put in a respectable performance, which, YAY! He gave McCain a good run for his money for most of the evening, and he's lined up to do even better in New Hampshire. Effin' rock! Maybe we'll see some of those, "I'd vote for him, but he'll never win," folks start to change their tune.
And, schadenfreude, part deux: Giuliani gets less than 4% of the vote. I also find it amusing that, whenever he starts to campaign hard in a state, his polling numbers consistently drop. I was predicting that might happen, but it really looks like his ship is sinking hard and fast.
Scary parts? Well, Huckabee. The man is scary. He's milking that Chuck Norris endorsement like crazy. But, as a guy who was a complete nonentity up until a few weeks ago, I suspect he'll have trouble pulling it off. And, even if he does, I doubt he'd beat Obama or Edwards in the general election. In fact, I'm hard-pressed to think of a Republican candidate who would.
McCain's pretty scary, too. I remember a time when he seemed almost sane, but nowadays, every time you start thinking that he may have returned to his mellower ways, he says some idiotic thing for all cameras and microphones to hear. (for instance, today's, "Let's stay in Iraq for 100 years!")
Annoying? That award goes to Fred Thompson. Why is he even still in this thing? Go home and STFU.
