Tales from behind the lens
Dec. 7th, 2007 12:49 pmYes, it's that time again: Photo spam! Not very many, because I haven't done much sorting or editing on any of these; I merely picked a few that jumped out at first blush and worked on them.
Bad lighting made okay: these are from my first shoot in DC, a.k.a. the one that was supposed to be covered and lit, but turned out to be wet and dark. I'm not gonna lie, I did a lot of post work in Photoshop on these, most of it spent getting rid of the ghetto-stylie shadows caused by the hot-shoe flash. They turned out okay, which is better than I expected, given the conditions.
Also, the hilarious part? The model posted the photo on the left in her portfolio, and the first comment she got on it said, among other things, "Nice lighting!" At which point, I pretty much laughed my ass off and concluded that, yes, I have mad Photoshopping skillz.

Glamarama: from last Sunday's glamour shoot. Nathan lives in a nice house, and when I saw the contrast between the punkish outfit and the fancy-schmancy living space, inspiration struck. :) I grabbed a wine glass and basically told the model to act like, "I just broke into this dude's house and I'm drinking his wine! WHAT!"
I thought it worked out really well. :) I got to play with the new wide-angle lens, and I was pleased with the spontaneous lighting setup I did. Also, based on her port, we both expected her to be super-girly and demure, but she was anything but that in person. :) Her personality came out more in the shots I took, than in any of the photos in her portfolio.

Holiday Cheer: these are from last week's impromptu holiday shoot. These two girls are best friends, and had this shoot planned out for a while, but in an unfortunate stroke of bad luck, their photographer canceled less than 48 hours prior, and their stylist had a car breakdown the day of the shoot!
The model on the left--an agency model, and also one of the few models we've encountered who seems to have good taste in photos--had shot with us for a local designer previously, so she called us a couple days before and asked if we'd be willing to shoot this for them. Also note the awesome pinup-style hair, which was accomplished by our pinch-hitter stylist with nothing but a curling iron and hairspray!
There were a lot of great ones, but I had to play with this one first, because it was so cute and best-friendy. Aww. :)

I ran on the treadmill last night for 3 miles or so, and this was also while watching the guy from Man vs. Wild eat and drink gross things, because it happened to be on the gym's TV. Eeep. I definitely still hate treadmills, but in the name of more cardio and better cross-training, I'll learn to deal. I also got to do yoga right after, which took a lot of the pain away, so that helped.
Weekend will probably be busy. I don't have any huge or special plans, but I need to bang out the next draft of the print project I've been working at. I also have two shoots this weekend, because I'm hoping to get the nerd series done before my Christmas trip. Yay stress. ;p
