On my way in to work today, I saw a jogger whose running form looked like what would happen if Peg Bundy decided to train for a marathon. She was literally running with her hands waving around like that! Soooo wrong.
This looks like it's an older writing of Ron Paul's, but it's a stance that I've supported for a while now: The Case for Drug Legalization. (you have to scroll down a bit) Abuse and overuse of ANY substance will negatively affect a person... the problem often isn't really the substance itself, it's the fact that a person feels compelled to abuse it, to the point that it becomes harmful.
I certainly don't advocate substance abuse. I haaaate tobacco smoking, and I'm at most a social drinker. But, if people want to be morons and kill themselves slowly with toxic chemicals, I figure that's their business. I'd rather not encourage abusers *or* the government to violate my way of life in the name of continuing or fighting drug abuse.
Anyhoo, I am tuckered out from writing client proposals and such, so I haven't felt much like posting.
nidaba and
gmendel are getting some folks together to play games later, so that's going to be part of my evening.
What am I doing tomorrow? Well, among other things, I get to stick a 5'11" blonde swimsuit model in a trash can. Bwaaahaha! I love my work.

Date: 2007-09-15 04:17 am (UTC)1: Making anything illegal puts it in the hands of the criminals and allows them an easy way to make a ton of money to continue even worse criminal acts.
2: Illegal or Legal, the substance will always be there and someone will always find a way to get or make it.
3: If something isn't regulated or controlled, then the quality of it isn't uniform and thats when you get people getting ahold of bad drugs and having to go to the hospital and waste a ton more money trying to treat them.
4: Making something Illegal or "naughty" gives it a certain mystique and forbidden fruit quality to it and makes it more desirable than just the effects of the substance itself. Like with everything else (alcohol, sex, nudity, etc.) when you make a HUGE deal about how wrong and awful it is, it makes a whole bunch of rebellious young people HAVE to try it just to piss off the squares.
Making drugs legal just makes sense. You can regulate and control the production and quality of the substance. Make money off the taxes on it, which would help the government. You would take it out of the hands of organized crime and make it less appealing.
Granted some drugs like crack, meth, and other extremely hazardous, addictive drugs will still have to be illegal, but if people can get a quick, legal fix from pot or some milder, less addictive form or other drugs, then they more than likely wont switch to harder drugs.
Drug addiction isn't a criminal problem, its a social/economic problem, and the real problem is that the CIA, Wall Street, and Law Enforcement agencies make WAAAAAY too much money off of the importing, laundering, and confiscation of drug activities for them to even WANT to win the whole "war on drugs" farce.
Okay, I'm done *lol*
I bowed to the SET master!
Date: 2007-09-18 12:33 am (UTC)We should get together again soon for a SET rematch :-P
