In these dark times, we can now look towards an honest purveyor of truth: Indecision 2008 from Comedy Central. XD Okay, I'm kind of kidding around there. But you know, I imagine they actually *are* more honest than Fox News, at the very least, so take from that what you will. ;p
Anyway, what a weekend. Whooooof!
I stayed up way too late working on webstuff on Friday night, but I dragged myself out of bed early on Saturday and biked over to a yoga class. I think that two of the best ways to start off a weekend morning are doing taiji, or doing yoga. You just feel awesome afterwards! The lady teaching the weekend class was kind of funny in that hippy-dippy sort of way, but she was super-nice and not shy about helping you adjust your poses. Awesome.
Then it was off to runway practice. I have to say, you don't quite realize how much goes into a runway walk, until you see people try to *do* a runway walk. XD We had walks ranging from boring to ungainly to contrived, and it was both funny and oddly comforting, heh. When you start telling people about how to position their hands, and keep their shoulders back, and keep their butts from sticking out too much, and blah blah blah... it's like there's a brain overload and the whole thing goes straight to hell.
I wound up getting props for my walk from the runway coach, though, so I think I'm at least proving my adaptability. I didn't know crap about this stuff until a week or so ago, but I'm already kind of rocking it. W00t!
After that, it was off to Vancouver to shoot backup for a wedding! Ben got in touch with these folks when he was looking for backup photographers to help *us* out when we got double-booked, so I went and helped them out with one of their gigs. (for a reasonable fee, of course) I mostly just got to do my thing and have fun, and they let me set up a couple of the posed group shots, so I got some good people-wrangling experience, too.
There was a *lot* of structure to the whole event, though. The owner of the chapel was this older woman, and she spent a lot of time running around and adjusting things and busting people's chops with a lot of "don't do this" and "don't do that." There were also a lot of planned shots, and the couple seemed not-very-into-it at times, and they were definitely weary of posing by the end.
Anyhoo, after the various scheduled things, I got to wander around and take fun pictures of people having a good time, and I always enjoy that. There were some little kids with hilariously awesome dance moves! I'm still sorting through photos, but I'll try to post a few from the wedding pretty soon. :) I definitely got at least a few that I want to add to our wedding portfolio!
After the wedding, it was off to Cinema 21 for the Buffy Musical Sing-Along, LOL! I didn't even know it was happening until the day of, when I heard that David and Jeremy were coming up from Eugene for it. It started at midnight, so I met up with them and we took in the crazy Buffy fandom for a couple hours.
It kind of felt like a Rocky Horror Picture Show event, but without the fishnets. They had "interactive goodie bags" with various items to make use of during the different songs, and some of those were pretty funny. And really, there's something about observing rabid fans of *any* film, series, or genre, that I find really amusing. There's something very infectious--in a good way--when a bunch of strangers come together to unite over their love of a particular thing and just have a good time with it. :)
Sunday was, fortunately, a lot mellower. I went to another morning yoga class, picked up some groceries, made some granola, and biked over to the Vita Cafe to have a tempeh sandwich and abuse their wi-fi. :) I'm all kinds of sleepy, after staying up late and getting up early for three nights in a row.
So, yeah! That's the ramble. Back to work, kiddies!
