Yeah, I know, everybody has something to say about the Virginia Tech shootings. I'd originally decided to keep my thoughts to myself, because, well, a lot of people have already said, and probably said it better than my coding-addled brain could right now. It's terrible that it happened, and it saddens me to hear about the circumstances.

What really steams me is not merely that the incident happened, however. It's the fact that, here in the aftermath, the media and the public somehow thinks it's okay to use this tragedy as a platform for pimping their own agenda.

Observe:
What is wrong with the citizens of this country? This kind of behavior is in such poor taste that I can hardly believe it, but there it is, happening every hour. I don't understand how any thinking human being could decide that these kinds of actions are acceptable or even remotely considerate.

Innocent people DIED. They had their lives taken away from them before their time. The families and friends of those people are trying to grieve and cope, while greedy politicians, small-time pundits, and religious nutjobs do their best to cheapen those lost lives. Can't they just shut up for 5 seconds and attempt to show even a little respect?

Apparently, judging from the news reports, that's too much to ask.

Yep. Jack Thompson went on Fox "news" hours after it happened to say the shooter (when there was no info on him) was driven to kill by video games. Yeah, dude.

seriously, WTF is wrong with people???

I think it's important to note that westbro baptist has just pretty much stolen the Baptist name and they are not affiliated with any Baptist organization. They're pretty much nutjobs and hate mongers, as evidenced by the article above and their website (www.godhatesfags.com ... nice huh?)

Could you get farther away from the message of Jesus?

Interestingly, this hatemongering tends to show up less in podcast and internet news than in tv news, I think. (At least, I haven't seen it so far.)

Ugh. Isn't this typical of every tragedy that happens in America, or out of America, or /anywhere/ that America's nasties can benefit from? x_x This is disgusting. Thank you for the links. I know some people who should see these.
