Okay, seriously: Why is running so frickin' hard? ;p

Yeah, I know, athletic stuff is never *easy*, and in some ways, the fact that it's hard is good. At least I know I'm *working* when I run, as opposed to those silly machines at the gym that leave me feeling like I haven't done jack squat after wheeling it like a hamster for 45 minutes. Still, I've got some problems that I can't figure out, and although I can't be in *that* bad of shape, signs seem to indicate otherwise:

1) Cramping consistently. It is always in the same place (right shoulder/torso), and usually happens around the 1.5-mile mark. It happens sooner if I try to run faster than normal, and once it starts, I have to go slow for the rest of the run to keep the pain at bay. Slowing down to a walk doesn't provide any lasting relief, because the cramping comes back soon after I start running again.
2) I start feeling completely wrecked a day or two after a good run. Is that NORMAL? My legs feel drained to hell today, and I'm going to suck horribly at wushu practice tonight because of it. I'm not sure what I could be doing wrong to make it so utterly taxing.
3) Clogging up with snot/phlegm and not being able to get air very efficiently. It happens more when I'm outside and it's cold, but basically the snot starts pouring and I go along gasping for air.

Ben says that I turn my feet out sometimes when I run, so that might be part of it. I have big feet, and I know I'm doing it to keep from catching my toes on the ground and falling on my face. But man, do I really have that far to go, fitness-wise? If so, that's pretty damned depressing.

Anyway, enough of that whining. On to better stuff!

We've been doing some online advertising and whatnot recently (largely because it's free/cheap), and lo, people are actually wanting to book us for wedding photography! And they aren't even people we know! :O That seems kind of crazy, but in that really good way! We may even get some new material really soon to add to the book, and that's awesome.

It is also confirmed that Phil is coming up this weekend to whip us wushu people into shape. Lord knows, I need it! It's also pretty much a given that the other workshop will happen, too, and that guy works as a personal trainer in addition to knowing his wushu, so that's going to be really informative.

I'm in a weird state of mind, where I want to do more and accomplish more, but I also want a break from everything. I'm not sure how to balance that out, but right now, I'm leaning towards the lazy hermit idea. Argh. I don't like being lazy, though. :p

Cramping and long lasting pain can be a symptom of lacking vitamins/water - do you get any other symptoms like a headache- drink more than you want to and get a good multivitamin in there - might help.

Also, just out of curiosity - how do you react warming up - does it take a while to hit your second wind, or does that happen quickly? Wushu muscles will be pretty different than jogging - aside from breathing (which is really important and a big benefit of jogging), wushu is more of a sprint than a jog.

I'm a crazy water junkie, so that ain't it. (I regularly drink 5+ 20 oz. bottles at work each day, and then more outside of work) Vitamins might be a problem, but I try to keep up with a multivitamin. (headaches only seem to happen at the computer, likely due to bad posture)

I'm not even sure I *have* a second wind. ::rotfl:: Usually I will start feeling like I've hit it, but that's when I get a cramp. But yeah, wushu practice is definitely not like jogging... I might liken it more to interval training, with the explosive bits and tempo variations and whatnot.
