I've decided that I want to watch a kung fu movie in the near future... maybe several. So, I call upon your powers of awesome:

Pick the Best. Kung Fu Movie. EVER! and tell me what it is!

Y'all know I love me some Jet Li and Jackie Chan. I'm currently leaning towards a Bruce Lee flick, because I've seen far too little of his work... but I'm open to pretty much anything, so hook me up!. :D

And speaking of kung fu, I'd better be off to practice soon.

100% Kung Fu

Try and find this movie called "This is Kung Fu". It is in Chinese and doesn't have sub-titles, it's just 83 minutes of pure wushu demos from the 80s or so. Features Jet Li as a teenager. Crazy stuff on there, as well as cute kids who look like they could kick you ass every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

If you are hankerin' for some Bruce Lee, it's hard to argue with Enter the Dragon!

Enter The Dragon is *THE* Kung Fu flick... no question.

"Flying Guillotine Master" or "Shogun Assassin". Two of my faves.

Classic: Shaolin Temple (or was it Shaolin Master Killer? can't remember...)- most of the movie is training sequences, and of course, they find a way to demonstrate the benefits of every single one in the end battle

Modern: Iron Monkey. About as impressive as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, only funnier, and w/o that "Huh?" ending.

Personally, I love House of Flying Daggers. It made me laugh and 'ooh' in awe a lot. :)

I went to a great Kung Fu Movie fest in NYC at one point. Great fun! Anyway, I'm a big fan of "Wing Chun", the "Once Upon a Time in China" series, and "Iron Monkey".

Third Iron Monkey rec

Disagree with Enter the Dragon rec(too much talking, not enough fighting) and instead recommend the same director's much better Jim Kelly vehicle: Black Belt Jones.

Or for less Americanized Fu, Yuen Wo Ping is pretty flawless from what I've seen. Watched Magnificent Butcher the other day and it, along with the original Drunken Master and Iron Monkey, are probably in the top 10 Kung Fu I've seen in my life.

Of course, the best Kung Fu movie in the universe is Invincible Pole Fighter aka 8 Diagram Pole Fighter, but I don't think it's on American DVD yet. I got lucky and saw it up here in Portland at the Grindhouse Film Festival a few years back. It made my head/heart explode.
